Accidental Texan Trailer

"This acting, this was always your dream?" Roadside Attractions has revealed an official trailer for an indie comedy titled Accidental Texan, made by storyboard artist / filmmaker Mark Lambert Bristol. Obviously enough, this originally premiered at the 2023 Dallas Film Festival last year, with a stop at the Heartland Film Festival in Indiana as well. The film is adapted from a novel called "Chocolate Lizards", which was the original title for this before they changed it to Accidental Texan. Fresh-faced actor Erwin finds himself stranded in Texas after a film shoot gone wrong, where he's taken under the wing of a nearly bankrupt oil driller. They set off on a wild Texas adventure to outwit a corrupt oil company to hit pay dirt before Merle's dreams are foreclosed, partnering with a kind waitress along the way. The ensemble cast features Rudy Pankow as Erwin, Carrie-Anne Moss as Faye, Thomas Haden Church as Merle, and Bruce Dern as Scheermeyer, with AnnaClare Hicks, David DeLao, Selase Botchway, Jake Ryan, Mark Nutter, Brad Leland, and Julio Cesar Cedillo. This looks more kooky and wacky than it does smart and funny.

Fresh-faced recent Harvard student Erwin (Rudy Pankow) flames out of his first professional acting job when he forgets to turn off his phone and triggers an explosive nightmare on set. His career and cell phone in tatters, he flees the New Orleans set, only for his car break down deep in the heart of Texas oil country. Seeking refuge and some possible phone service in a local diner, he meets Faye (Carrie-Anne Moss), a kind waitress who takes pity on him and offers up the local phone book to find a mechanic. Without enough funds, Erwin accepts an offer from Merle, a local oil driller (Thomas Haden Church) only to find out he too is nearly bankrupt and cannot pay his bills. With both men in desperate straits, Merle realizes their only hope may be Erwin’s acting skills and a little help from Faye's shotgun. Accidental Texan, also known as Chocolate Lizards, is directed by artist / filmmaker Mark Lambert Bristol, director of the film Natural Selection previously, who also works as a storyboard artist. The screenplay is by Julie B. Denny; based on the novel by Cole Thompson. Produced by Mark Lambert Bristol, Julie B. Denny, Melissa Kirkendall, Koen Wooten. Roadside releases Accidental Texan in theaters starting March 8th, 2024 coming soon. Anyone?
