Low ratings mainly reflect the wrong expectations of viewers who expect a real mafia film. The Godfather is a classic precisely because it transcends the genre of mafia film. No flamboyant gangsters and violent outbursts as can be seen in work by Scorcese or dePalma. So what is the Godfather?

- The ultimate tragedy. Between Michael Corleone's entry at the wedding in Godfather I and the musings in the final shot of Godfather II, his metamorphosis from educated, nuanced ideal son-in-law to a disillusioned, embittered and ruthless survivor. Spread over two films, it is subdued that the inevitability of a series of events forces Michael to give up his ideals and how he, numbed by the betrayal of friends, enemies and even relatives, arrives at the ultimate tragedy: fratricide[. /spoiler]. His goal, to legalize the family business and his father's estate, has insidiously demanded resources that he would have resolutely rejected beforehand.

- The development of the actor Al Pacino: insignificant and largely unintentional by the producers at the start of the first takes. Oscar winner and one of the iconic actors of his generation after the completion of part II.

- The migration history of the italian americans. The emergence of alternative traditional legal systems in the ghetto of little italy, which with the modernization of America are proving increasingly obsolete and incompatible with the liberal democratic rule of law. And within that is Michael Corleone's futile struggle to make that transition.

Godfather I and II should be considered a movie. A masterpiece that captures a population group and zeitgeist, brings generations of top actors together and is a platform for the launch of new talent.

Less than the first. Cramming two films into one equals taking on too much, and then you inevitably end up with too long a playing time. It skips from a prequel about Don Vito's childhood to the difficulties that son Michael faces in the present day. But actually they would have made a full-fledged prequel film because those long flashbacks stood alone and had no specific function with the Michael Corleone plot. Definitely worth a point in my rating. The intrigue in which he finds himself was also a bit disappointing, but luckily Coppola keeps a good pace and Pacino is hyper-magnetic, so it all flew by like an express train. And the bitter ending also felt very strong.

Over 1 million viewer votes on IMDb and an average of a 9!

Few movies make it, so director Francis Ford Coppola, who turns 82 in April this year, will be thrilled with this. An excellent successor to The Godfather (1972), which scored even 0.2 higher!

You have to be honest cozy chair and I will be.

Technically the film, the acting, the music and the set were fine but .... look there you have that "but", the story did not appeal to me. And if the story is not so appealing, a film, almost 3.5 hours long, is often long. We cut this movie into 2 parts and I personally was happy when it was over. Actually, I watched the movie because my girlfriend really wanted to see it, just like part 1 from 1972.

What I still don't understand is why they didn't reverse the movies. This partly goes back in time and could have been the first or have I not been paying attention?

Yet it was still so good (and in consultation) that our rating is an average of 8!
