Note: this article contains spoilers for Netflix's Bird Box.

Since landing on Netflix at Christmas time, Bird Box has become an unexpected phenomenon with over 45 million people tuning in.

Fans have taken to the internet in their droves to discuss the loose ends left by the tense thriller, and now director Susanne Bier has finally spoken about the unanswered questions.

Speaking to People, she revealed where she believes couple Felix (Machine Gun Kelly) and Lucy (Rosa Salazar) went after they stole the car and disappeared from the safe house.

"I think [the grocery store] was their plan, but we don't know," she said. "I think that that's where they wanna go, but I actually think it's quite exciting that we don't know exactly where they went."

Susanna also explained why Malorie's (Sandra Bullock) maternity specialist Dr Lapham was there at the end of the movie.

"I felt that it needed some real hope," she said. "And I thought having someone else survive, and having someone who she met at a point where she was kind of rejecting life, and having to meet at that point [where she's embracing it].

"I felt it was a really warm and hopeful element to the ending. And it also makes us think, 'Oh, there are other survivors!'

"I think it does infuse the ending with a kind of grander hope than if she had not been there."

Susanna also talked about whether a sequel could happen following the massive success of the film.

"We only just finished it," she said. "It's funny, I'm kind of reading people asking for a sequel and I'm like, 'Hey, hey, hey, we really just finished!' So let's just enjoy it for now."
