It is with a heavy heart we announce the passing of Dean Charles Jones, age 57, of Sioux Falls, SD. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, May 10, 2024 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls. Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Thursday, May 9, 2024 at Skroch Funeral Chapel in Flandreau, SD.
Dean was born on May 12, 1966 in Dell Rapids, South Dakota to Jimmy and Beverly Jones. He grew up on a family farm in Egan, SD, graduating from Egan High School in 1984. He attended South Dakota State University and graduated with a Bachelors of Science Degree in Education in 1988. He received his Master's Degree in Educational Administration from South Dakota State University in 1999.
Dean taught school and coached girls' basketball and track in Geddes School District, Geddes, SD from 1988 to 1995; Stanley County School from 1995 to 1996, White Lake School from 1996 to 1997, and Montrose School District from 1997 to 1999.
Dean then attended the University of Sioux Falls from 2002 to 2004 and received an Education Specialist Degree (Ed.S.)
Dean was Principal/Athletic Director in the Menno School District from 1999 to 2003. He then moved on to become Superintendent in the Tea Area School District from 2003 to 2009, Superintendent K-12 Principal at Waverly School District, Superintendent/Elementary Principal at Canistota School District from 2011 to 2012, and Superintendent/Principal of Waubay School District from 2012 to 2020 at which point he retired and made his home in Sioux Falls, SD.
Dean met the love of his life, Lori Heinsohn and they were married on April 12, 1997.
Dean is survived by his wife, Lori Jones; mother, Beverly Jones, Sioux Falls, SD; stepsons, Anthony Uthe (Sydney Platzer), Houston, TX, Corey (Nicole) Pechous, Sioux Falls, Michael (Angie) Pechous, Humboldt, SD; step-grandchildren, a special grandson, Weston, Pechous; sister, Barbara Jones, Pheonix, AZ; brother-in-law, Bill Heinsohn, Henderson, TN; two step-sisters, Maxine (George) Bergh, Mendota Heights, MN, and Shirley Suedkamp, Castle Rock, CO; many uncles, aunts, cousins, close friends, former students, faculties, and board members.
He was preceded in death by his father, Jimmy Jones, grandparents, uncles and aunts.
