Sunset is mostly a great school with great academics, but it's not perfect. It takes a very long time to get things done in the school. For example, to hang up posters in the halls, they have to get stamped. But only 4 people have the authority to stamp them, and they spend most of their day in meetings. This makes it take a very long time to do something as simple as putting up posters.
At Sunset High School, the community spirit was amazing, but there were struggles with outdated resources, especially in science labs and the arts. Investing in these areas and promoting diversity in the curriculum could greatly enhance the student experience.
I think that in general Sunset had enough supportive resources for students. However, I would like to see more academic rigor. I didn't feel very challenged.
I moved to Sunset in the beginning of my Sophomore year and I have loved my experience here. I am originally from Hillsboro, Oregon and although it is only 30 minutes away, the culture here is so much more encouraging. Attending Sunset has allowed me to grow academically and personally in many ways. The teachers here are attentive and they value their students' success. The students here are amazing and it truly does feel like a community. When I moved, I was so afraid that I would never find friends like I had back home. That quickly changed as I learned the students at Sunset were very welcoming. I love the school spirit here which makes all of the school events super fun. Most importantly, I feel as if Sunset caters better to my goals compared to the high school I last attended. The competitive environment at Sunset has pushed me to advocate for myself. I have met more students who share the same goals as me and I love being able to relate to them.
Not bad, definitely ready to leave for college. The art teachers are amazing, haven't had a good math teacher besides Ford, elective class teachers are great.
The best part of my experience at Sunset High School was the strong sense of community and support among students and faculty. I appreciated the opportunities for extracurricular involvement, such as clubs and sports, which allowed me to pursue my interests outside of the classroom. However, limited resources and facilities sometimes hindered our ability to fully explore subjectsI hope to see changes that prioritize increased funding for resources and facilities.
Being a Sunset High Grad myself, I was really excited when we realized our daughter would also go there. However, the pandemic had other ideas, and she spent her first year as an Apollo, completely in remote learning, never even setting foot in the school.
Sophomore year, we jokingly referred to them as Freshmen 2.0.
Now she's a senior, with just 5 short months remaining. Besides taking several IB classes, she has really embraced the music department in particular, and has filled her schedule throughout the years with Wind Ensemble, Jazz Band, Solo & Ensemble, Marching Band & playing for the school musical. All while meeting her People, some of whom have become her best friends.
The teachers, for the most part, really care about their students and want to see them succeed. Could some things there change for the better? Yes. But if there's one thing the community at Sunset has taught us, it's that none of us are perfect, and we all deserve grace and respect.

Good overall. Teachers are not accessible often and too many kids in the classroom(over 40 kids in some elelctvie classes)
While classes may get boring at times, I find that they're often times well taught and easy to learn if you listen to what is being taught. Which is how most schools should teach in my opinion making it harder for the kids who don't pay attention in class and easier for the kids that do pay attention. Sports for this school haven't been the best for a while our last football state championship was in 1976 men's basketball 1987 baseball 1994 the most recent state champion brought to sunset was in 2021 our speech and debate team won state. The students are very friendly and are easy to become friends with i have made so many new friends from this school.
The best part is definitely the teachers there. Every teacher I have personally had are so passionate about teaching the students here. All the teachers really go above and beyond connecting with their students and making them feel safe in their classroom. The worst part of my experience is the "opportunity weeks" at the end of the semester. I appreciate being given an opportunity to gain extra credit however, I think it's a waste of everyone's time to have a week of every class being a study hall but still require everyone to be there. It's a slap in the face to people who have worked hard to maintain their grade all year and someone coasting by can get the same grade in 1 week. If extra credit is required to make a grade higher, I believe that should be separately communicated between the teacher and student as to not waste the majority of students time.
Sunset is an interesting school. Most of the students there are nice and most of the teachers are okay. There are a few teachers that I love. But the school is old, so there are sometimes ants crawling around. But there are a lot of IB classes you can take, but now that I'm leaving they are focusing on kids to take them to graduate which might be intense for some people. The library is really cool though, they have a little crafting area that is welcome for all to use. There are some ups and downs but it's not an awful school. They also have a wellness room which is cool, you can go there if you need a break from a class or if you are going though stuff and they have stuff for you there you can do and they have staff there if you need to talk to someone. But you can also just chill there until you feel that you are ready to go back to class.
Sunset was a school that I had low expectations for. I wasn't sure if I wanted to go to a school that only offered IB classes after 10th grade. But in the end, I was able to find ways to challenge myself inside and outside of the classroom through clubs, events, and other activities. Sunset gave me the opportunity to push myself and stand out among my peers. It also taught me important life lessons regarding time management, work ethic, communication, and teamwork. Of course, my experience had its downs. The locker room and bathrooms (at least for boys) smell horrible and are often closed for speculative reasons. The overall architecture of the school, especially when compared to schools like Westview, is incredibly inferior. Class sizes are greatly imbalanced, especially in computer classes where 1 teacher has to sometimes supervise around 50 students at a time. But overall, I can say that these negatives don't affect how I feel about Sunset. I don't regret my 3 years here one bit.
Overall well maintained with good teachers and nice staff. Program and classes are well taught and teachers really aim to give students success in college and beyond, although the building is a little outdated.
I have had good experiences with Sunset High School and bad ones. There are a lot of classes to choose from and many advanced courses which are really good but some courses are a lot of busy work where you barely learn anything. Some teachers are amazing while some do not teach at all and others make everything really confusing.
I have personally had a wonderful time at Sunset High School. It wasn’t perfect, but can you expect High School to be. We en if the people and the teachers can be just a little unhelpful or dismissive at times, I do think it has truly set me up wonderfully for the future.
I only went to this school physically my freshman year until it was cut short by the COVID pandemic in 2020. For the rest of that school year, we learned via Zoom, and we received pass/no pass grades. My sophomore year, the whole school learned online. I learned better in person. The teachers were average. This school is in a very liberal area, but I wouldn't say our teachers grade based on personal belief. I was on the cross-country team, our coach was one of the best, making our team one of the best in the district and state.
My experience at sunset high school has been pretty average. Most of the students there aren't very friendly or welcoming. I have had around 1/3 of my teachers make me feel welcome in class.
