In 2024, New SUVs are the Safest They've Ever Been

New vehicles are safer than ever, thanks to stricter testing standards and more advanced safety features. Some of the vehicles you’ll see on this list aren’t cheap, but if one of them ends up saving the life of you and your passengers in a collision, you can certainly consider that money well spent.

We’ve arranged this slideshow based on each vehicle’s U.S. News safety score. That considers factors such as crash test data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), as well as each vehicle’s standard and optional safety and driver-assistance features. Not all 2024 vehicle crash testing is complete, so this slideshow includes only vehicles with enough data to assign a score.

As you read, keep in mind that we update our scores, rankings and reviews as we receive new information. That means the scores or other information on each slide might not match the current version of that vehicle’s full review. Also keep in mind that every vehicle here includes a rearview camera, electronic stability control and airbags, as previously mandated by federal law.

Note that some of the 2024 models in this slideshow do not yet have safety scores, so for those vehicles, we will use an estimated safety score based on the 2023 model.
