Robert Fielding is an Aboriginal artist from Mimili community in the APY Lands. His work is a reaction to his heritage and interaction with the white people. His work “in Our Hands” references the Whitlam act of pouring sand into the hands of an aboriginal elder. The work on paper is part of a suite of works to show that even though time has passed has much changed over all this time.
Other works by Robert in the collection link with this work including the video that directly relates to the work on paper as well as the three flour drums that loosely translate to past, present and future which were part of the payment for the workers on the Wave Hill Station which lead to changes in work conditions.
Robert has won the Telstra Prize for works on paper and is collected by many institutions.
