Someone has broken into the safe of a London company, and yet no force or explosive was used, and the keys do not appear to have been lost. A police superintendent is investigating, assisted by a new and very keen sergeant. The superintendent's wife is worried that he may be in personal danger, and the superintendent is not always mindful of the need to reassure his wife. Then a safe in another business is also robbed without the use of force, but the robber's getaway car runs down a bystander, who later dies. There seems to be nothing to link the crimes, but then the getaway car is found abandoned in a scrap yard. A discarded newspaper in the car may be a crucial lead in solving the crime, but there isn't much to go on.

Inside Job
Elementary my Dear Mr. Hawkins! These thieves trip themselves up and allow the sleuths from NEW Scotland Yard to track them down and sift them like hops and barley at the local brewery. Not a bad film. Jack Hawkins does a fine job keeping it afloat when all seems to be lost. It’s worth a gander.

Story by Robert Barr
You're in for a treat. This is a great early police procedural written by Robert Barr who wrote for many British TV series during the 60s and who wrote the BBC radio series The Midas Touch, The King of Diamonds, and best of all Detective. This story is engaging - not too gritty but not sentimental either. I'd consider this a gem in that it has all-around high quality. Enjoy!

Poor audio
A good little move. This copy, however, has problems. The video is fine but the audio varies from tolerable to atrocious.

"The Long Arm"
Excellent 1950's British film. In those days the police always got their man, with a very " crime does not pay" message in movies of that era
Check out Jack Hawkins in another classic British crime caper..."The League of Gentlemen"...

Good British Mystery and Suspense Drama
Also known as "The Long Arm", this is a fine who-done-it drama well acted by stars and supporting character actors alike. There is one weak, if not hard to believe, link in the course of finding and pursuing clues - but other than that it is a fine script. Jack Hawkins is a family man - lovely wife and child - and a dedicated snd even-tempered Detective-Supeintendent with a safe desk job. John Stratton is his new young assistant in much the same mold, except he has a girlfriend. Their jobs are suddenly turned into possibly dangerous, on-the scene detective work, as they track down a safe-cracker who leaves no clues and runs over a and kills a man during an escape. There are some nice twists and turns that keep you involved and a dramatic ending, brings the case and the film to a satisfying conclusion. Highly recommended.
