This is a review for "Genesis: The Video Show" DVD.
The title of "The Video Show" is putting it mildly. Genesis has always been a top quality band that worked for the sound quality and most inventive videos to match their music. This is a collection of 32 Genesis big hits. Don't bother with any other Genesis video collection. This is the only one you need. Every Genesis hit is here, remastered and remixed with a phenomenal 5.1 surround mix that will impress the audiophile.
The videos are stunningly clear and vivid. No grain or video noise.
But the soundtrack is the big star of this collection. Each audio track has obviously been remixed from original multi track masters that were remastered. The audio is offered in Dolby Digital 5.1 and DTS 5.1 Surround. Of course I always prefer the DTS 5.1 mode for the wider dynamic range and less compression than Dolby audio.
Every video takes big advantage of the 5.1 tracks. Very noticeable 5 channel separation with superb frequency response and dynamic range. This collection will impress even the picky Audiophile.
At the start of each video is a single frame with the title of the next video. If you click ENTER on your remote while the frame is up, it takes you to a page that shows the details of the title such as writers, producer, director, singer....etc... Just hit ENTER again at any time to go direct to the video.
All 32 videos are the originals as seen on MTV and VH1 back in the stone age when they still played music videos. Back when Phil Collins was a fresh new voice on the charts. There are a couple of videos near the end after Phil Collins left the band to go solo. The last video of the set is "The Carpet Crawlers 1999 with Peter Gabriel. He looks young.
If you are a Genesis fan, this is the only collection you need. If you are not a fan, these videos will make you one. Worth every dollar.

It's Your Show!

The Video Show is perfect in that it is a completely comprehensive collection of every music video Genesis, in all its guises, ever released. There's very little point complaining about the lack of Gabriel. They never made music videos with him. Also, complaining that there is "too much new stuff" is just weird. You're upset because they gave you too much for your money?
I'm not gonna describe every video so I'll just make a few points about the DVD as a whole. The picture and sound quality is great so each video can be enjoyed exactly as Genesis originaly intended (complete with cringeworthy acting and special-effects in "a trick of the tail").
I'm not sure why but the songs are all arranged in reverse chronological order apart from the "Calling All Stations" stuff which comes at the end. All of the videos (yes even Calling All Stations era) are well worth watching for the sheer entertainment and history behind each one.
For me, the jewel in the crown of this DVD is that Peter Gabriel does make an appearance. Well, his voice does. The very last video is "Carpet Crawlers 1999". Rerecorded by the band in 1999 with all sortsa modern sounding stuff. Anyhow, it's a brilliant reworking of the song with a very moving video with little snapshots of old Geneses performances projected onto naked people. What's not to enjoy?
Easy to stick on in the background and you can even create a playlist of the videos you want to watch. I personally have spent many hours watching this dvd. It really is worth owning for fans of any era. I also think it's very good value for money.

¡ AQUELLOS VIDEOS...!

A TRICK OF THE TAIL".
