A man turned himself in at the Lukeville Port of Entry border station on Monday in connection to a violent Phoenix murder that happened on Sunday, according to a statement from Phoenix police.

Eduardo Ramirez-Galindo, 32, faces one count of second-degree murder after he allegedly admitted to Phoenix detectives that after a night of heavy drinking, he killed Andrea Casarrubios Romero, according to court documents.

After following a trail of blood, police found 24-year-old Andrea Casarrubias Romero dead with multiple stab wounds on her neck, chest and arms in a house near 27th Avenue and Indian School Road on Sunday morning.

Additional information regarding the circumstances around her death were not made available by police.

Court documents indicate that Casarrubias Romero had been in a relationship with Ramirez-Galindo.

Police listened in while an unnamed witness talked to Ramirez-Galindo on the phone after the murder, and, according to documents, police said they overheard Ramirez-Galindo admitting to killing Casarrubias Romero.

Police said in court documents that Ramirez-Galindo fled to Nogales after the murder and made it to Caborca, Mexico — a town in Sonora over 130 miles southwest of Nogales — before telling the witness that he wanted to turn himself in.

Ramirez-Galindo made it to the border at Sonoyta and tried to turn himself over to the U.S. Border Patrol. Officers initially turned him away before taking him into custody, according to the police report.

According to court documents, Ramirez-Galindo told police that he wanted to turn himself in and "that what happened to her should happen to him."

The Maricopa County Superior Court set bail for Ramirez-Galindo at $1 million and scheduled his preliminary hearing for May 16.
