Thanks

Dionne Warwick sings music and lyrics like no other artist in the world. Cole Porter
writes music and lyrics like no other composer. The two talents, together for the first
time, create magic. This entire album, thanks to Dionne, Cole Porter and Arif Mardin,

is truly magical. Clive Davis

This project has been a labor of love for me. First and foremost, it afforded me the
opportunity and pleasure of working with the fabulous Dionne Warwick. Her unique gift
takes each piece of music to a new and exciting place.

Rediscovering the beauty of Cole Porter led me on a fantastic journey, reminding me
once again, that nothing in life can be taken for granted. This man's genius and sense
of humor is as timely today as it was a half-century ago.

And finally, Clive Davis’ invaluable direction brought this entire enterprise to a very
exciting level. Thank you Clive, for the concept and the vision. Arif Mardin

Year after year and now decade after decade, trend after trend, fad after fad, the late
Cole Porter, who was my friend, has remained a great communicator to the hearts of
people...come to think of it that description also applies exactly to Dionne Warwick,
who is also my friend I'm proud to say.

In this album Dionne, like Cole Porter, proves she has the most difficult talent of all in

music, staying power. | love her madly! Frank Sinatra

Dionne Warwick sings Cole Porter and it's all right with me! Love, Lena Horne

Following Dionne Warwick's growth as an artist has been like watching a flower bloom:
dimensions to her artistry are constantly being revealed. Rather than taking a safe and
easy path, Dionne always stretches her considerable vocal talents, pushes the limits of
pop music.

Like other great vocalists, Dionne Warwick takes an instrumentalist’s approach to singing
and she has an extraordinary ear for the intervals and subtleties of her material. She can
take good material and make it great, and she can take great material and completely
blow you away.

The musical and lyrical sophistication of Cole Porter presents a formidable challenge to
every interpretive vocalist and, like Sarah and Ella before her, Dionne responds to these
great songs as a major instrumentalist. Her performance on this album represents the
highest level of craft in the pop music tradition: her virtuosity is inseparable from an
emotional connection to the material. When Dionne Warwick sings Cole Porter, it comes
straight from her heart.

I love Dionne and her God given gifts. Quincy Jones

Night And Day

Like the beat beat beat of the tom-tom
When the jungle shadows fall,

Like the tick tick tock of the stately clock
As it stands against the wall,

Like the drip drip drip of the raindrops
When the sum’ show’ is through,

So a voice within me keeps repeating
You - You - You.

Night and day you are the one,

Only you beneath the moon and under the
sun,

Whether near to me or far

It's no matter, darling, where you are,

I think of you, night and day.

Day and night, why is it so

That this longing for you follows wherever
| go?

In the roaring traffic’s boom,

In the silence of my lonely room,

I think of you, night and day.

Night and day under the hide of me
There's an, oh, such a hungry yearning
burning inside of me,

And its torment won't be through

Till you let me spend my life making love to
you

Day and night, night and day.

I Love Paris

Ev‘ry time | look down
On this timeless town,
More and more do | realize

| love Paris in the springtime,

| love Paris in the fall,

| love Paris in the winter, when it drizzles,
| love Paris in the summer, when it sizzles,
| love Paris ev'ry moment,

Evry moment of the year.

| love Paris,

Why, oh, why do | love Paris?

Because my love is near.

I Get A Kick Out Of You

My story is much too sad to be told,
eur ecicatanoe ing leaves me totally
cold.

The only exception | know is the case
Where |’m out on a quiet spree
Fighting vainly the old ennui

And | suddenly turn and see

Your fabulous face.

| get no kick from champagne.
Mere alcohol doesn’t thrill me at all,
So tell me why should it be true
That | get a kick out of you?

Some like perfume from Spain

I'm sure that if | took even one sniff
That would bore me terrific'ly too
Yet | get a kick out of you.

| get a kick ev'ry time | see

You're standing there before me.

| get a kick though it's clear to me
You obviously don't adore me.

| get no kick in a plane.

Flying too high with some guy in the sky
Is my idea at ve hine to do,

Yet | get a kick out of you.

What Is This Thing Called Love?

What is this thing called love?
This funny thing called love?

Just who can solve its mystery?
Why should it make a fool of me?

So In Li
(Medley)

Strange, dear, but true, dear,
When I’m close to you, dear,

The stars fill the sky,

So in love with you am I.

Even without you

My arms fold about you.

You know, darling, why,

So in love with you am I.

In love with the night mysterious
The night when you first were there,
In love with my joy delirious
When | knew that you could care.
So taunt me and hurt me,

Deceive me, desert me,

I'm yours ‘til | die,

So in love,

So in love,

So in love with you, my love, am I.

You're The Top
You're the top!

You're the Colosseum.

You're the top!

You're the Louvre Museum.

You're a melody from a symphony by
Strauss,

You're a Bendel bonnet,

A Shakespeare sonnet,

You're Mickey Mouse.

Youre the Nile,

You're the Tow’r of Pisa,

You're the smile

On the Mona Lisa.

I'm a worthless check, a total wreck, a flop,
But if, baby, I’m the bottom
You're the top!

,

You're the top!

You're Mahatma Gandhi.
You're the top!

You're Napoleon brandy.

You're the purple light of a summer night in
Spain,

You're the National Gall'y,

You're Garbo’s sal'ry,

You're cellophane.
You're sublime,

You're a turkey dinner,

You're the time

Of the Derby winner.

I'm a toy balloon that is fated soon to pop,
But if, baby, I’m the bottom
You‘e the top!

I've Got You Under My Skin

I've got you under my skin,

I've got you deep in the heart of me,

So deep in my heart, you‘e really a part
of me,

I've got you under my skin,

| tried so not to give in,

| said to myself, “This affair never will go so
well.”

But why should | try to resist when, darling,
| know so well

I've got you under my skin.

I'd sacrifice anything, come what might,
For the sake of having you near,

In spite of a warning voice that comes in
the night,

And repeats and repeats in my ear,
“Don't you know, little fool, you never can
win,

Use your mentality,

Wake up to reality.”

But each time | do, just the thought of you
Makes me stop, before | begin.

‘Cause I've got you under my skin.

Begin The Beguine

When they begin the beguine

Itbrings back the sound ghrnsle so tender,
It brings back a night of tropical splendor,
It brings back a memory ever green.

I'm with you once more under the stars
And down by the shore an orchestra's
playing,

And even the palms seem to be swaying
When they begin the beguine.

To live it again is past all endeavor
Except when that tune clutches my heart.
And there we are, swearing to love forever,
And promising never,

Never to part.

What moments divine, what rapture
serene,

Till clouds came along to disperse the joys
we had tasted,

And now when | hear people curse the
chance that was wasted,

| know but too well what they mean,

So don't let them begin the beguine!

Let the love that was once a fire remain an
ember.

Let it sleep like the dead desire | only
remember

When they begin the beguine.

Oh yes, let them begin the beguine, make
them play!

Till the stars that were there before return
above you,

Till you whisper to me once more, “Darling,
| love you!”

And we suddenly know what heaven we're

in
When they begin the beguine.

It's All Right With Me

Its the wrong time and the wrong place,
Though your face is charming, it’s the
wrong face,

It's not his face but such a charming face
That it’s all right with me.

It's the wrong song in the wrong style,
Though your smile is lovely, it’s the wrong
smile,

It’s not his smile but such a lovely smile
That it's all right with me.

You can’t know how happy | am that we
met,

I'm strangely attracted to you.

There’s someone |’m trying so hard to
forget,

Don't you want to forget someone too?
It’s the wrong game with the wrong chips,
Though your lips are tempting, they're the
wrong lips,

They’re nothis lips but they’re such tempting
lips

That if some night you’e free,

Dear, it’s all right,

It’s all right

With me.

Anything Goes

Times have changed

And we've often rewound the clock
Since the Puritans got a shock

When they landed on Plymouth Rock.
If today

Any shock they should try to stem,
‘Stead of landing on Plymouth Rock,
Plymouth Rock would land on them.

In olden days, a glimpse of stocking

Was looked on as something shocking,
But now, Heaven knows,

Anything goes.

Good authors too who once knew better
words

Now only use four-letter words

Writing prose,

Anything goes.

The world has gone mad today
And good's bad today,

And black’s white today,

And day's night today,

And most guys today

That women prize today

Are simply gigolos

So though I’m not a great romancer
| know that I’m bound to answer
When you propose

Anything goes.

You'd Be So Nice To

Come Home

Youd be so nice to come home to,
You'd be so nice by the fire,

While the breeze on high

Sang a lullaby,

Youd be all that |

Could desire.

Under stars chilled by the winter,
Under an August moon burning above,
You'd be so nice,

You'd be paradise

To come home to and love.

All Of You

| love the looks of you, the lure of you,
I'd love to make a tour of you,

The eyes, the arms, the mouth of you,
The east, west, north, and the south of you.
I'd love to gain complete control of you,
And handle even the heart and soul of you,
So love, at least, a small percent of me, do,
For | love all of you.

I Concentrate On You

Whenever skies look gray to me

And trouble begins to brew,

Whenever the winter winds become too
strong,

| concentrate on you.

When Fortune cries, “Nay, nay!” to me
And people declare, “You're through,”
Whenever the blues become my only song,
| concentrate on you,

On your smile so sweet, so tender,
When at first my kiss you decline,

On the light in your eyes when you
surrender

And once again our arms intertwine.
And so when wise men say to me

That love's young dream never comes true,
To prove that even wise men can be wrong,
| concentrate on you,

| concentrate

And concentrate

On you.
