- BeardymanManchester, UK15 contributionsA stunning church, welcoming and steeped in history. Has to be worth a visit if ever in Middleton. Also have a wander around the graveyard and Old Kankys.Written September 5, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Sightseer767880Bradford, UK62 contributionsWent to the arena on Saturday the 13th May with friends who live in Middleton to see The Drifters. We had a brilliant time and were entertained for approx 2 hours with a medley of hit records from the past. The only thing that spoilt the entire event was the constant stream of people going backwards and forwards to the bar returning with 3/4 drinks and then carrying them up a very steep staircase back to their seat, a recipe for disaster and surely a health and safety hazard. There is an interval half way through the show surely you can do without a drink for 40 minutes or so?. The other annoying thing and something the stewards should stop immediately is people leaving their seat to stand in front of the stage trying to touch the artists on stage and taking selfish, how annoying for the people in the front rows who have paid for the show only to miss a good amount of it through the act of these selfish women who at their age should know better. Management you need to get a grip on what's going on in your arena before the enviable accident happens on the steps or someone whose paid for a front seat gets aggressive with the few who want to spoil the evening for the rest of the audience.Written May 15, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Charles_and_SusanNottingham, UK7,170 contributionsThis is adjacent to Middleton Top Engine House. It's an old quarry working with cut stone still around in the base of the quarry. It's OK to walk around and see what's there amongst the stones.
Between the old railway track and the quarry itself there's now a picnic area, a pleasant place to stop and take in the views. When I was there lots of cowslips were flowering in that area.Written April 30, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. It's in a nice little location surrounded by farms on a little dirt track on the way to Tandle Hill. It's quite small inside and has an old feel to it, almost stepping back into time. The outside area isn't very big either with slightly worn benches but it kinda adds to the feel of the place. It's chilled and a nice quiet place to enjoy a beverage. The staff were alright, pretty helpful and made a great brew.Written September 12, 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Minnie M4 contributionsAbsolutely fantastic chocolate business! We were so well looked after by Emile, who made us the BEST hot chocolate we have ever tried. The family dynamic is warm and the space is relaxing yet exciting, as you’re able to watch the chocolate being made. We were able to try the chocolates before purchasing and we were very much encouraged to do so which was extremely generous and very delicious! The artisan nature of this business really affects the taste of the products, in all the best ways possible. It‘s crafted beautifully and Emile talked us through the chocolate with complete knowledge and brilliant suggestions. This is a total gem for anyone who loves chocolate, but also those who love to try new, innovative and well sourced foods.Written March 27, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Clashy10Wicklow, Ireland26 contributionsFabulous pub. After having visited previously when a late friend, John Eastwood was in charge, I was not expecting the same experience again. How wrong I was. It’s a great pub, very reasonably priced and the staff are very friendly and welcoming. Really enjoyed my few beers there last Sunday week and will defo be back soon.Written March 6, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - tonyvee8Manchester, UK59 contributionsA traditional English Pub serving fine local ales, opposite the ancient Parish Church of Saint Leonards. You can imagine in the tranquillity of the beer garden to the rear, or the panoramic views of the Parish Church ( burial place of the Radical Sam Bamford of the Peterloo massacre fame ,August 1819 ), and Jubilee Gardens.
Why not combine your trip with a visit around the Church outside and see the special monument to Sam Bamford in the graveyard a large structure that you cannot miss ! The landlord is planning in the near future to have limited Sunday lunches in the Butterfly room upstairs ,a Victorian Folly that will at the least surprise one and all. This room is also available to hire for meetings. Well worth a visit for an hour or two.
The Pub is accessible to wheelchairs and those with mobility difficulties via a ramp to the rear of the building. Hard to believe that this little gem is only a few minutes walk from the town centre, and has adequate parking facilities in St. Leonards Square and easily reached by local and frequent bus service, being a few hundred yards away from the 17 bus ,on the Main Manchester to Rochdale route. Opening times are Monday to Thursday 17.00 to midnight ,Friday 15.00 till late ,Saturdays ,Sundays and Bank Holidays, noon till late.Written November 4, 2014This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
