The song’s rapid pace and incorporation of Chinese instruments pay homage to Iso’s own Chinese heritage, while the lyrics explain his background as an assassin for the Scions of Hourglass, a rival group of the VALORANT Protocol.

“Bounty Hunter” marks the first time Derivakat raps in Chinese in her songs. This gesture of honoring Chinese culture comes after her redesigning her logos after Chinese calligraphy, which was part of her artist layout redesign for The Archivist in June 2023.

The song started production as early as December 4, 2023, as seen on the date of a song snippet Derivakat posted in an Instagram story. This was part of an ask-me-anything collection that happened a day after. It was teased alongside another VALORANT-themed song honoring Reyna, “REIGN,” although the topic for “Bounty Hunter” was unknown to the public at the time.
