Winter Storm Warning in effect for Fond du Lac County

Models are coming into better agreement with each other as far as snowfall in our area, and the consensus is about eight inches around Fond du Lac. Because of this, the National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for the county to be in effect from 2 PM through 7 AM tomorrow morning, but snow will likely still be falling well after the warning expires. In fact models show snow continuing to fall into Thursday morning. This is because the low pressure storm system that is currently moving north east through Missouri will reach lower Michigan by this evening, and then rather than continue in a northeast motion, it will retrograde, or move backwards slightly over Lake Michigan, right as its at its prime snow making position for eastern Wisconsin.

Not only will the low pressure stall in the area, but it is also intensifying which will cause winds to start gusting to near 40 mph through Thursday morning. Luckily the snow will be wet and heavy, so blowing snow wont be a huge concern, but there could still be some mild drifting issues with a wind that strong.

To put the snowfall into a better perspective, the average snowfall for the entire month of April in Fond du Lac is 2.3 inches.

After the storm heads off to the east, high pressure to our north in Canada will clear skies out and allow temperatures to work back up to the mid 50s by Sunday before the next storm moves into the area Sunday night into Monday, all but killing any chances locally to see the solar eclipse in our area early Monday afternoon.
