Bruce Berman—chairman and chief executive of Village Roadshow Pictures, the production company responsible for movies like Training Day and Ocean’s Eleven—has gifted 186 photographs from his collection to the J. Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles. The announcement comes ten years after “Where We Live: Photographs of America from the Berman Collection,” the first show the Getty staged at its photography center.
Among the works included in the gift are 67 photographs by Camilo José Vergara, the Chilean-born artist who typically shoots industrial cities in decline. Also included are color and black-and-white works by Danny Lyon, Walker Evans, Dorothea Lange, Martin Parr, and others.
In a statement, Berman, who has donated photographs from his collection to numerous museums, said, “As an avid photographer in my teenage years, my appreciation for photographs has evolved into collecting unique snapshots of urban life. It gives me great pride to share these wonderful works with the Getty and future generations of Los Angelenos.”
