Editorial Reviews

These two names are still much valued by those, who love and celebrate good Rock'n'Roll: Ian Hunter, leader und singer of Mott The Hoople & Mick Ronson, longtime companion and guitarist of David Bowie's Spiders From Mars. The 6th Rockpalast night at 19th to 20th of April 1980 was a really outstanding event in the long history of the high acclaimed Rockpalast-festival-series. The charismatic performance of Ian Hunter and his longtime companion Mick Ronson climaxed in breathtaking versions of Once Bitten Twice Shy, The Mott The Hoople classic All The Young Dudes, written by David Bowie for Ian Hunter or Slaughter On 10th Avenue. This gem presents another exorbitant TV broadcasted highlight of the German station WDR.

This is a superlative offering of Hunter and Ronson performing live in Essen, Germany 1980. Well recorded, terrific sound quality, and the DVD video included is a wonderful viewing, featuring the skillful guitarist Ronson's full artistry along with Ian who always put on a great show. I have the "Welcome to the Club" cd yet I enjoyed this even more. Clearly filmed, it's a thrill to see Ronson play the electric mandolin on "I Wish I Was Your Mother." I'm a big fan of both artists, and have seen Ian Hunter 3 times live. I very highly recommend this package, easily worth your time and investment.

Ian at the peak of his powers as a solo artist with Mick Ronson helping to front the band, this show was from a tour I caught him on (I believe I saw him in San Francisco). This is a strong set with both the audio (on CD) and video (region free DVD in NTSC). The video portion has some image weaknesses due to the source tape but it’s still worth picking up and seeing.

Be aware this,is the fill set that was broadcast but isn’t a full Ian Hunter show running around 74 minutes with 13 tracks.

The track listing:

Once Bitten Twice Shy
Angeline
Laugh at Me
Irene Wilde
I Wish I Was Your Mother
Just Another Night
We Gotta Get Out of Here
Bastard
All The Way From Memphis
Cleveland Rocks
All The Young Dudes
Slaughter on 10th Avenue

This was typical of his set list for 1979-1981.

The set list is the same for the DVD and CD (same show) and comes in a digipak with a plastic well to put the discs in. The booklet is in both German and English.

The audio quality varies from very good to decent.

An excellent recording from the long running German TV program Rockpalast, it's basically "Welcome to the Club"Hunters early 80's live album featuring the late great Mick Ronson, well worth investing in, it covers all periods of Ian Hunters career plus a couple of Ronson tracks, give it a go, you won't be disappointed

5.0 out of 5 stars Brian Hunter et Mike Ronson. Live rock palast

Super live. Pour les fans de Ronson.

3.0 out of 5 stars Troppe aspettative
Reviewed in Italy on April 18, 2022
