Description
Marsh Creek State Park is located in Chester County. Its main attraction is Marsh Creek Lake, which is popular for fishing. The park contains many miles of hiking trails that are also used by mountain bikers, runners, and horseback riders.
Parking is available at the Marsh Creek Boat Ramp. From here you will hike south along the banks of Marsh Creek Reservoir towards the dam. The trail continues to travel close to the shore before heading inland. The trail is narrow in many places and popular with both hikers and mountain bikers, so be alert.
A good mix of gravel, narrow forest trails and meadow/grass-cut trails with lake views. Note this is the busier side of the state park. Can start from either the main parking area or there are a couple of larger lots up the hill (near the playground and another by the pool).
The only markings are on the Red Trail which starts on gravel and then turns into a single-track trail through the woods along the lake, over the hill, and back down towards the park office. The open/field areas don't...
Marsh Creek State Park near Downingtown, Pennsylvania has many scenic areas to hike. I hiked the Western section of the park near the boat ramp. Some nice trails to walk in a tree lined section. Some meadows as well. Fun walk.
Such a beautiful day to check out Marsh Creek for the first time! The trails are well marked and maintained. Watch out for the horse on the trail. Beautiful views of the valley and lake though!
To say that the trail was muddy is to state the obvious, Marsh Creek is generally going to have muddy spots throughout unless, perhaps, there’s a lengthy summer drought. What was surprising is that there were dry sections even after about an inch of rain only two days ago. The temp was 35F when I started out so the mud was still mostly frozen and not too bad other than a bit slippery in spots due to sun melt. By the time I was wrapping up around noon the boots were a mess. Still, it was a good hike and had the trail to myself until the end. Additional note: a recent review of this trail reported a tree down across the trail. That appears to have been cleared and I did notice at least two spots where there was fresh sawdust from clearing work.
