The TownePlace Suites by Marriott Outer Banks Kill Devil Hills offers a mix of experiences. While many guests commend the clean, spacious rooms with handy kitchenettes, opinions on service are divided; some laud the friendly staff, whereas others cite slow service and bike rental issues. Although the beach access and prime location near amenities are popular, concerns about value surface due to perceived high costs and modest breakfast options. The cleanliness of the hotel generally receives praise, but some guests seek more frequent housekeeping and improved security.

After staying at another hotel up the street that really wasn't up to par for us, we moved to the TownePlace Suites for a Friday & Saturday evening. Big shoutout to Susie for trying to extend our stay to 3 nights, but because of hotel capacity we only did two. But she was extremely helpful and I believe tried her best to do what she could. We stayed in room 316 which was a king suite with partial ocean view. The room isn't very large, but everything is properly placed so you don't feel cramped. The bed and couch were both very comfortable. The shower has good water pressure, and I really liked the provided shampoo, conditioner & body wash in pump containers in the shower. The floors are what appear to be a wood laminate which I like much better than carpet. And everything looked and smelled clean in all areas we saw in the hotel. Because of covid there was no daily room cleaning services, but unlike the other hotel where we stayed I didn't see an abundance of towels left in the halls. Plus they have a decent size trash can by the kitchette so I think it kept from patrons putting trash in the hallways. Pleasantly surprised at all the provided kitchen items (see my pictures). Colors and decorations are very tasteful all over the hotel. Never had a problem finding a parking spot all weekend. We didn't use the nearby beach access since we like a spot in South Nags Head that is less busy. Also did not try pool or fitness area. Breakfast was not available because of covid. Overall we were so glad we chose this hotel, and we would definitely come again.

I travel to the OBX several times a year. This was my 1st stay at the Marriott but it won't be my last. The staff went above and beyond to make my vacation to surprise my friend for her bday exceptional. I called the hotel directly to book and Kayla was extremely helpful in getting us the perfect room. Jamie got us checked in quickly upon our arrival and Brandon was kind enough to entertain us with some conversation on the best way to access the beach late at night
The room was spotless, I esp loved having a broom in the room to sweep up the sand as to not track it into bed!!!!! And I absolutely loved the beds and pillows....soooo comfortable. All of the staff were extraordinarily friendly and helpful, I swear by the time I left everyone in the hotel knew me by name. Due to COVID there wasn't an option for a continental breakfast but the staff suggested local eateries which didn't disappoint. The Gen Manager Amanda has done a wonderful job with the empoyees and keeping everything clean, safe, which made our stay very enjoyable. I highly recommend this property and will be back in the Fall for sure!!!!

I stayed at the Townplace Suites even though it was somewhat pricey. Although I was aware this property is not on the beach, I was only straying one day so not an issue for me. However, for the price, my expectations were definitely not met. I can say the staff was both accommodating and friendly. They were great. Unfortunately, the hotel is so poorly built. Whoever their builder is did a very poor job. In my room, the bathroom fixtures were not connected to the vanity and you had to hold the sink fixture in place just to cut on the water. The shower door was off the track and the caulk was so degraded there was mold growing in the shower where the caulk failed. It's a pet friendly hotel too which is not a problem for me except there was dog feces in the lobby all day. Accidents happen, but you would think someone would clean the floor if the pet owner failed to do so. Also be aware, the property does not have a restaurant, bar, and limited overpriced items in the lobby store. They do have a free continental breakfast but it is very limited an unappetizing. There are several other chain hotels in the area which have many amenities and are on the beach. Their rates are significantly cheaper as well. I spent $391 for a Saturday night stay. I really can't believe they are asking that for a mediocre hotel room where you have to hold the bathroom fixtures in place in order to wash your hands. VERY DISSAPOINTING.

We stayed at this hotel in July 2020 for only one night and we decided to come back for a longer period of stay. My husband wanted to have the best experience and we chose to book the room with Ocean view. (Normally they give 3 options, one of them Inlet view, secondly, Partial-Ocean view and the last and most expensive one is Oceanview, attached is from their web site). We booked and paid for the room with “Ocean view” (please see the attachment) and we also called the hotel the day before to confirm the amenities of the room, which they confirmed the room would have a full stove and 4 burners.
When we arrived at the hotel the room they gave us (Room #313) had a partial view and also had no stove, just only 2 burners. When we realized we did not get what we paid for, they quickly escalated and the lady at the front desk refused my request to talk to the manager, even it was before 5 pm, she said the manager is not on-site and she will not contact the manager! Then we decided to call the Marriott customer service, they were not much help. When we showed the front desk lady (name Kayla, she gave me her name written on a piece of paper with her handwriting) our printed confirmation of the booking from their own web site, she demonstrated very unprofessional behavior and threatened me “contacting her lawyer and taking my @SS to the court “, I have the documentation of this threat and I will be happy to share it with upper management. Also, after she wrote her name on a piece of paper and handed it to me yelling “remember this name”, she refused to give me her last name. She was extremely hostile.
We came to this hotel to have some relaxation time with my family especially for my son with autism. I would never guess a very well-established hotel chain will allow this kind of behavior. One of the male front desk employees (who refused to give his name) wasn’t wearing his mask properly, when I reminded him to cover his nose he said “I cannot judge his uniform”. What a logic!!!
Hostility made us very uncomfortable. Not only did we not get what we paid for, we also were called profound names and threatened to get our @sses to the court (I cannot write what she said, but I am sure you are guessing her words).
We asked to cancel both of our bookings (because we also added a third day just a couple days before our stay, silly us…).
They said they will cancel both of our bookings (we are still waiting for the pending changes to cancel). Then we called the Marriott customer service one final time to make sure they canceled both of our bookings, we also explained to them the profound words used against us, they gave us a case number. We are extremely disappointed and I can promise that I will never ever set foot to any Marriot again.
This cost us time, energy, and frustration; my kids suffered unnecessarily…

Not only was the hotel beautiful but the staff was amazing. Everyone from housekeeping to the front desk to the breakfast area made us feel at home. The ladies at the front desk took the time to give me a map and show me places of interest and talk to me about the area. Miss Debbie in the breakfast area takes care of every guest as if they’re family. I loved this place and will return!

This newer hotel is very modern inside and has all the amenities you need - pool, laundry, breakfast, and outdoor grill and patio area. It's very close to the beach and within walking distance of many restaurants. It's close to the major attractions like the sand dunes and Wright Brothers Museum. The rooms are very nice and clean and having a kitchen with dishes and a dining table while on vacation is very helpful. The room's floors are wood instead of carpet which makes keeping them clean easier. Parking is abundant and there are plenty of spaces underneath the hotel to protect you from sun/heat or rain. There are even a couple of outdoor foot showers for when returning from the beach.

Our stay was terrible. We were informed on the second day that housekeeping services during stays has been suspended. No restocking, clean towels, etc. We had to stand in line at the front desk for toilet paper or towels. Most of the people in line were looking for the same thing or making complaints about the lack of cleanliness. We paid over $300/night and didn’t even have toilet paper.

I took my daughter to the indoor pool…big mistake. It smelled terrible and was filthy. The garbage was overflowing in the bathroom, the toilet was filthy, and there was debris around the pool (qtips and bandaids, so gross!). The outdoor pool and beach access were closed after they were damaged in a fire…wish we had know that prior to booking.

When they clean the rooms they pile all of the garbage and linens in the hallway. It smelled awful and sat there for hours. The housekeeping staff were in the room next to ours loudly complaining about the guest that had just left. Much of the staff were not dressed appropriately for work so it was impossible to know who works there. Sweatpants, jeans, PlayStation tshirt, anything goes. Additionally, they were rude and dismissive of any complaints or requests.

Marriott should be ashamed to have their name on this hotel.

Honestly, I was expecting a lot better... To start I will say if you're intending on staying here based on the desire to have access to a beach and outdoor pool stay somewhere else, When I chose this hotel I got myself overjoyed to be able to walk across the street and enjoy the pool access, a beach and Tiki bar. Well, unfortunately, due to a recent fire all of those amenities are no longer available which hey no problem things happen but nowhere in the multiple phone calls to the hotel did they disclose that they were no longer available to guests if I had known I would have canceled my reservation and made other accommodations. Rooms are just slightly bigger than my dorm room back in college, breakfast was a complete joke they didn't even bother to cook the sausages and I still have to wait and see what the final bill comes out to right now they've authorized an extra $350 in "incidentals" on my card for a 6-night stay. So yeah all in all $300+ a night for this NEVER again... But hey shaded parking and dog friendly you can have 1 star.
Oh and added bonus my inland view gives me a nice full bay window to put on a show for the guys working on the roof 50 ft away so blacked out a hotel room or an Indecency charge???!!!

I have to clarify as a reviewer said there is no ocean view, there is. We were on the second floor and could clearly see the ocean out our window, although I didn't book asking for the view, but appreciated it. Anyway, returned here as said, and pleased again with our stay. I understand some of the disappointments with Covid19 'out there', but still had a pleasant time. Yes, unhappy no breakfast, maybe could provide something for guests some other way food wise? Yes, there were times there were too many people in the lobby checking in or out, tried to avoid that!
Updates= Pros: Friendly staff, very clean spacious room, lighting, storage, hooks great in the room, kitchen stocked enough to cook (no oven though folks), they recycle, and appreciate that the stairwell and common areas are kept clean of trash and if someone leaves it there (come on guests), it is picked up quickly.
Cons: I like pets, but at times, more so than I'd like- too loud with barking and yapping and a dog mess left for someone else to clean up (not cool). Both grilles not operational originally, glad they got knobs back for our final night. Can we please fix the poor star fish decoration in the stairwell that still has the broken leg (thanks).
Great location, looking forward to the outdoor pool and expansion, hope the rates don't soar!! Pretty $$ already. Thanks.

We had 4 nights booked and left after two, it was that bad. First, this hotel has no beach access as advertised and it’s not on the beach. You have to drag your stuff to the public access and enter that way. It’s fine if a hotel doesn’t have access but don’t advertise it or price your rooms that way.

We paid for a partial ocean view and weren’t able to see the ocean from our window. Maybe if we were 7 feet tall but nada for my 5 foot self or my 6 foot husband.

Most importantly my room wasn’t clean when I arrived. There was food on the floor from the prior stay, someone else’s earplugs and the room was dirty. Went to the desk to get a room change and they are sold out with no options other than for us to clean the room ourselves or she would clean the room for me. They were really unorganized and slow at the desk and we had just driven 11 hours so we were in no mood to wait another hour or so when it should have been done already. I asked for a discount since I had to do it myself and she offered 1700 points which was a joke. I said no way so a manager was supposed to contact me in the morning to discuss more but no surprise that didn’t happen.

They also promised a deep clean that next morning and they never showed up to do that. I’ll be contacting Marriott Corporate about this when our travels are over if I have time.

Further, if you have a dog allergy this place is overrun with dogs like I’ve never seen and I’ve spent thousands of nights in a hotel. The halls and elevators smell awful. We used the stairs constantly even though I had surgery a few weeks ago and shouldn’t have but I couldn’t stand the smell.

The happiest moment was leaving this morning and knowing I never have to return. The staff who checked me out never asked how my stay was or I would have expressed my discontent. Again, no shock here. Every staff member we encountered was rude or passive.

Many choices to stay in this area, avoid this place!

When we were there you could get eggs and cereals and yougurt and bacon etc. Housekeeping was still not coming in every day. If you needed new towels you requested them. They did have a broom and a pan to help keep the floors clean
