Leaving the ring, he turned to the crowd and shouted, "Well, you paid to get in - suckers." The bout, termed "a fake, fiasco and disgrace" by Premier Mitchell F. Hepburn (who had been in the crowd), resulted in the reorganization of the Ontario Athletic Commission and the appointment of P. J. Mulqueen as Chairman to restore confidence of fans.

1934-06-14 | Primo Carnera | 78 6 0 | Madison Square Garden Bowl, Long Island City, Queens | W-TKO
| ||||||||
World heavyweight title Nat Fleischer (inThe Ring, August 1934, page 47) claimed that Carnera was floored three times in round one, twice in round two (Carnera dragging Baer down both times). once in round three, and several more times in the last two rounds. Fleischer's account is not entirely clear and it appears that one or two paragraphs at the end may have been deleted by accident. Other accounts indicate that Carnera was down twice in round 10 and twice more in round 11, which would make a total of 10 knockdowns. Fleischer had Carnera winning rounds four, seven, and eight, Baer winning all of the others (unofficially). Attendance 56, 000. | ||||||||||||
