SOC-330 Topic 1: The Definition of Globalization Worksheet
Instructions: Search for different definitions of globalization. Select 3 definitions, reflect on each source, and explain the
similarities and differences between the definitions. Consider how slight changes in the wording change the meaning and how the
definitions differ when written through a sociological lens (the textbooks definition). Compare each of the 3 definitions to the
textbook's definition.
Definition 1:
“Globalization is a term used to describe
the increasing connectedness and
interdependence of world cultures and
economies.”
Definition 2:
“Globalization is the word used to describe the
growing interdependence of the world’s
economies, cultures, and populations, brought
about by cross-border trade in goods and services,
technology, and flows of investment, people, and
information”
Definition 3:
“Globalization means the speedup of
movements and exchanges (of
human beings, goods, and services,
capital, technologies or cultural
practices) all over the planet.”
