About Dr. Robert Todd Hurst
A leading medical expert in cardiology, Robert Todd Hurst, MD, FACC, FASE is on a mission to change the “medicate and operate” approach rampant in today’s health system. Instead, he is focused on providing evidence-based programs to help people prevent, treat, and even reverse the most common diseases that make people sick and end their lives too early.
As a board-certified cardiologist, Dr. Hurst left his dream job of nearly 20 years at the Mayo Clinic because he was frustrated that traditional healthcare only provided pills and procedures, when research had proven more comprehensive treatment could dramatically improve wellness.
He founded HealthspanMD™ Cardiology in Phoenix to provide proactive and ongoing care and help patients mitigate heart issues – including coronary artery disease, atrial fibrillation, high blood pressure and more at any stage. The programs deliver concierge-level care, paid for by Medicare and most insurance. Patients receive step-by-step guidance from Dr. Hurst and a dedicated care team to create clear, daily habits and achieve individualized health, weight and longevity goals.
Dr. Hurst completed an Internal Medicine residency and Cardiovascular Diseases fellowship at the Mayo Clinic - Arizona. He spent 13 years as a Consultant in Cardiovascular Diseases at Mayo Clinic - Arizona, where he was an Associate Professor of Medicine in the Mayo Clinic School of Medicine, Founding Director of the Heart Health and Performance Program and the Carla J. and Russell P. Paonessa Chair, Wellness and Health Education. Subsequently, served as Associate Physician Executive Director at Banner Heart Institute: Center Director for Cardiovascular Health, and Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Arizona/Banner University Medical Center-Phoenix.
A highly respected cardiology resource, Dr. Hurst has more than 50 publications in peer-reviewed journals and has given over 100 presentations at medical educational conferences.

Dr. Hurst is the best, most professional, well trained and knowledgeable doctor I have ever been too. His front desk staff greeted me by name. They were ready and prepared for my visit. Every staff member was friendly and professional. Each person took their time, answering all my wife’s and my questions. My heart condition at the time was very scary and dangerous yet Dr. Hurst and each of his staff did their jobs perfectly, making the visit pleasurable and valuable. After only the first visit I know I’m going to get the very best there is in heart care.

I was greeted by super friendly staff and seen right away. Paula was attentive, bubbly and knowledgeable. Brandi, the nurse practitioner came in to do extra assessments and take further history, was very nice and spoke highly of the practice. Dr. Hurst has a great medical residence history and made sure to review all of my information before greeting me and had a treatment plan ready, I made the appointment the day prior and was so happy to be able to be seen and heard right away! I would highly recommend and look forward to going back.

I saw Dr. Hurst for high blood pressure expecting a 15 minute appointment and a pill, but Dr. Hurst and Brandy spent an hour reviewing my health history and enrolled me into their remote care program. For the first time in 20 years I’m excited about my health!! I can’t thank the team at HealthspanMD enough. Go see Dr. Hurst immediately!!!

Right away you feel very welcomed, and they even offer remote care programs to keep you connected and accountable to your priorities in your health after your visit! Dr. Hurst and Brandy NP were some of the kindest and most attentive people I’ve ever met. I’ve been to many doctors and often struggle with the feeling that my concerns are not being heard. I did not get that feeling here. Not only were my health concerns heard, but Dr. Hurst enquired about my lifestyle and wellness concerns. I’ve never had a doctor that made me feel so special.
