Barack Obama and his radical team of self-professed socialists, fringe activists, and others are trying to remake the American way of life. They have used their new Democratic majority to launch an alarming assault on our capitalist system—while abandoning the war on terror, undermining our national security, and weakening our position in the eyes of our enemies. The "candidate of change" is threatening to change our country irreparably, and for the worse—if we don't act to stop him now.
Sean Hannity has been sounding the alarms about Obama and his agenda from the start. Now—in his first new book in six years—he issues a stirring call to action. Hannity surveys all the major Obama players—from the president's affiliation with radical theology to his advisers' history of Marxist activism, repression of the media, support for leftist dictators, and worse. He exposes their resulting campaign to dismantle the American free-market system and forfeit our national sovereignty. But he draws on the examples of Ronald Reagan and the GOP's Contract with America to show how conservatives can unite behind this country's most cherished principles and act now to get America back on the right track—while we still can.

To those who are well-informed and aware of the incredible debt which is quickly crippling this country and the dangers this poses to our national security and our families' futures, reading this book will only strengthen your resolve in taking our country back.
To those who are unsure or even doubt the affronts to our liberty that are being taken on at an alarming rate, I strongly suggest you pick up this easy-to-understand book--else you learn the hard way after it's far too late to save America from the tipping point of becoming a full-scale social welfare state, where people live in complacent dependency on the government, giving far more of their money to the state than keeping it for their own family's future, living and driving in much smaller homes and vehicles, having little-to-no say in anything regarding their own interests, including health care, their job, education and even, in China, how many children they can have.
It isn't hard to see (if your eyes are open) the nanny state transforming into the bully state. Take those 17,000 IRS agents needed to enforce all the regulations and mandates imposed on private citizens, businesses and insurers, for example.
Sean Hannity breaks his book up into three parts and I will do the same in writing the review.
Part I: Why Victory Is So Important
Sean takes the reader through what everyone should have been aware of before the 2008 election, yet what the main stream media either downplayed or all together ignored in their focus to vilify Sarah Palin. The history of a candidate's life should be what every reasonably responsible journalist or average citizen researches before any election, especially a presidential election. Unfortunately, people were all to trusting in the main stream media and all too eager to replace Bush, a combination which proved victorious for Democrats.
For those who did their research, Obama's history of associating with far-left radicals is self-evident throughout his life. From his youth growing up in Indonesia where communism was not just an abstract system but practiced in principle along with having communist-leaning parents, to his Chicago years where he was trained by radicals in the methods of Saul Alinsky, who wrote "Rules for Radicals", a blueprint for Marxist organizing and agitation, to his choice of attending Trinity Unity Church under Dr. Jeremiah Wright, which is nothing more than "Marxism dressed up as Christianity," as Kyle-Anne Shiver wrote after studying tenets of Black Liberation Theology, then visited the church and browsed the bookstore noting, "Even the books that were Christian-oriented were more political than religious, such as those by James Cone. The theme that tied those books together, was neither Christianity nor any other real religion, but Marxist philosophy."
Hannity points out other friends and gives brief histories of each in making his point, "For Obama, his affiliation with Reverend Wright was just a continuation of this pattern of relationships--one that would serve as an affirmation and validation of his already-shaped worldview... My purpose in highlighting these radical associations during the campaign, and to delve more deeply into them now, is not to smear him, but to understand him--to demonstrate that Obama has a genuinely radical past, one that serves as an accurate predictor of his presidential policy agenda."
Chapter three is entitled "Obama The Socialist", anyone who still scoffs at this personification need only read this chapter alone. From Obama's smug retort to Joe the Plumber about 'spreading the wealth around' to his inaugural address where he said, "There will be a time for them [companies] to make profits, and there will be a time for them to get bonuses--now is not that time." CNBC's Jim Cramer correctly drew comparisons between Obama and the Soviet Union's first leader, Vladimir Lenin's book 'What Is To Be Done?', "is the simple text of what I always thought was a key principle for the communists. It was remarkable to hear very similar language from 'What Is To Be Done?' which is, We have no place for profits."
Furthermore, all the debt and deficit spending will leave one with a headache and questioning what the difference is between the necessity to balance your family's budget and that of the federal governments? In order to keep a roof over your head you don't continue maxing out one credit card to pay for the previous one. As the Heritage Foundation's Brian Riedl writes, "One would expect the post-recession deficit to revert back to the $150 billion to $350 billion budget deficits that were typical beore the recession. Instead, by 2019, the President forecasts a $917 billion budget deficit, a public debt of 77 percent of GDP, and annual net interest spending of $774 billion." (And this assessment by Riedl was written before Obama's second ten-year budget, which involved much higher spending and larger deficits).
Hannity writes, "No matter which party you belong to, the point is that this country cannot continue to support this kind of debt." He's unequivocally right. With the size and scope of the federal government growing faster than ever before under Obama, the debt will only increase and it's imperative to slow the train-wreck until we can stop it completely in 2012 by making him a one-term president. Sean provides plenty of ammunition to the fiscal ineptitude of the Democrats, from the mortgage bailout plan, the stimulus bust, cap-and-trade to Obamacare.
Next, in the chapter "Obama The Appeaser", Hannity goes through the American left's "blame America first" strategy made apparent through the President's world apology tour and appeasement policies that match campaign rhetoric, typical of an amateur on foreign policy with an inaccurate view of America's enemies and allies due to blind ideology and a belief that by apologizing and appeasing, our enemies will leave us alone. From promising to close Gitmo to granting terrorists Miranda rights and trying them in civilian courts, Hannity writes, "despite all Obama's groveling, the foreign leaders whose approval he craved have answered by rebuffing and even ridiculing him. Though Obama made repeated overtures to Cuba, Iran, North Korea, and Venezuela, after initially favorable responses they have responded largely by insulting him or rejecting his appeals for cooperation."
Part II: Learning From History
This part of the book is my favorite, there's nothing like looking back into history and seeing what's worked and what hasn't, this approach to any problem is vital, for throughout the accumulated knowledge of mankind's past there is scarcely anything that hasn't been tried and tested.
In this part, Sean Hannity explains why he's a Reagan conservative, as history will show for Ronald Reagan's presidency, it is the vindication of conservative and first principle ideas. From Reagan's peace through strength foreign policy, which lead to the fall of the Berlin Wall and the entire Soviet empire disintegrating soon thereafter, to Reagan's supply-side economics, cutting marginal income tax rates (that liberals cry decreases federal revenues and rewards the rich), which actually made the rich pay more taxes, proportionately, than they had before the cuts, and federal revenues increased dramatically during the 80s, nearly doubling.
Moreover, "A 1990 Bureau of Census report showed that the plight of all income groups, from poor to wealthy, improved during Reagan's time in office. A staggering 86 percent of people in the lowest fifth of income earners moved into higher income groups in the Reagan decade. During this period, the United States experienced unprecedented peacetime economic growth, with some twenty million new jobs, negligible inflation, and reduced interest rates--combinations most economists said couldn't be done. Real after tax income per person rose by 15.5 percent, and real median income of families, before taxes, went up 12.5 percent."
Hannity also addresses the country club Republicans and RINOs (Republicans in name only) in this chapter, followed by a chapter that is self-explanatory, entitled: 'Our Model For Unity And Action: The Contract With America', he talks of the great strides and success of the Contract and some of the short-falls, finally the chapter on 'How Republicans Lost Their Way' describes the permanent division between the defining philosophies of liberalism and conservatism and how Republicans in the past and present imitate and concede to liberal policy.
Part III: Moving Forward: Reclaiming Our Future
Sean Hannity makes clear the argument against forming another third party, which would ultimately split the vote on our side and hand another electoral victory to Democrats. He emphasizes Reagan's argument for a revitalized Republican party, one that this time, won't forget their bold differences and the convictions of their principles, to work for the American people, not special interest groups.
Hannity eloquently responds to those who believe conservatives are stuck in the past and should move on to a new set of ideas, "Well, I'm all for reformulating our strategies and adopting new programs to deal with our current set of issues. But I reject the idea that adapting to today means throwing out the founding principles that have defined our country for more than two centuries."
Endorsing Reagan's and our first principles: Defending fiscal responsibility, ending deficit spending, placing a limit on the percentage of the people's earnings government can take without their consent, simplifying the tax code, hailing the free-market as the greatest provider for the most people, ending harassment and over-regulation of business and industry which restricts expansion and competitiveness in the world markets, and "explore ways to ward off socialism, not by increasing government's coercive power, but by increasing participation by the people in the ownership of our industrial machine," in the words of Reagan.
Hannity continues, "Our free-market system is the reason America's prosperity has outshined that of every other free nation in history. And if we should abandon our faith in market forces, in favor of a command-control economy, we will forfeit that prosperity. This is a lesson we learned very early in our history, when the pilgrims discovered that people would quit working instead of being forced to share the fruits of their labor with 'other men's wives and children without any recompense.' People don't produce when the government confiscates too great a portion of their earnings."
On economic issues, the highlight of this chapter is when Hannity addresses the liberal attacks on capitalism and the free market on moral grounds as being inherently greed-driven and inhumane.
He cites an interview between Phil Donahue and Milton Friedman, Donahue asks: "When you see around the globe the mal-distribution of wealth, the desperate plight of millions of people in underdeveloped countries, when you see so few haves and so many have-nots, when you see the greed and the concentration of power, did you ever have a moment of doubt about capitalism and whether greed's a good idea to run on?"
Friedman replied with, "Tell me, is there some society you know that doesn't run on greed? Do you think Russia doesn't run on greed? You think China doesn't run on greed? What is greed? Of course none of us are greedy; it's only the other fellow who's greedy. The world runs on individuals pursuing their separate interests. The great achievements of civilization have not come from government bureaus. Einstein didn't construct his theory under order from a bureaucrat. Henry Ford didn't revolutionize the automobile industry that way. In the only cases in which the masses have escaped from the kind of grinding poverty you're talking about, the only cases in recorded history are where they have had capitalism and largely free trade. If you want to know where the masses are worst off, it's exactly the kinds of societies that depart from that. So the record of history is absolutely crystal clear: that there is no alternative way so far discovered of improving the lot of the ordinary people that can hold a candle to the productive activities that are unleashed by a free enterprise system."
Hannity continues the interview, "Donahue came at the question again, asking Friedman whether capitalism doesn't seem to reward manipulation of the system, rather than rewarding virtue. 'What does reward virtue?' Friedman answered. 'You think the communist commissar rewards virtue? You think a Hitler rewards virtue?...Is it really true that political self-interest is nobler somehow than economic self-interest?...Just tell me where in the world you find these angles who are going to organize society for us. I don't even trust you to do that!'"
In national security the first principles means reinvesting in the Reagan model of peace through strength, based on a worldview that recognizes evil in the world and believes that evil regimes must be opposed, not appeased. Hannity notes, "The enemy we faced yesterday--global communism--was no more menacing than the one we face today in Islamic extremism."
On social policy, Hannity cites Reagan yet again, "Families--not government programs--are the best way to make sure our children are properly nurtured, our elderly are cared for, our cultural and spiritual heritages are perpetuated, our laws are observed and our values are preserved...[The] government's programs, actions, officials and social welfare institutions [must] never be allowed to jeopardize the family. We fear the government may be powerful enough to destroy our families; we know that it is not powerful enough to replace them. The New Republican Party must be committed to working always in the interest of the American family."
The Constitution, is the founding governing document which is an expression of the framers' clear understanding of man's fallen nature. The framers had to craft a form of government with checks and balances and a separation of powers, in order to prevent any one branch from acquiring too much power at the expense of the others. The Constitution and it's structural integrity is essential to preserving our liberties.
Hannity sets the record straight on who the real ideologues and extremists are that the left likes to point at conservatives of being. He askes, "Were our framers extreme? Perhaps so, if only because they were founding a new nation in a world dominated by monarchies, oligarchies, tyrannies, and oppression. They were carving our a new space for freedom in a world where liberty was radical in theory and scarce in practice. But that was nearly two-hundred and fifty years ago. The civilized world has long since caught up with our framers' unbending commitment to freedom; liberty is no longer an extreme political demand, but rather the fundamental human right. And we mainstream conservatives merely carry the same torch our forefathers did. We believe in adhering to the Constitution as written; in maximizing our liberties within the context of law; in maintaining a strong defense; and in traditional values and a strong unwavering faith in God. We endorse policies that are proven to have worked to maximize liberty, foster economic growth, strengthen our national defense, and preserve our orderly, morally healthy, and stable society."
In the final chapter Hannity lays out the Items for victory. We all know what this country needs to do to get back on the right course, lest we lose the greatest nation ever created by man. I encourage every one of every party to pick up this book, it's under $10 and the profits for the book go to the Freedom Alliance charity.
The followers of Hannity's talk radio shows will have heard all this material many times although sans some of the more detailed reasoning behind Conservative philosophy. President Ronald Reagan is quoted often in this book and his philosophy is also the driving source of Hannity's own beliefs.
This three part, ten chapter paperback examines the following subjects in great detail: " Obama's History of Radicalism, Obama's New Radical Friends, Obama the Socialist, Obama the Appeaser" are all included in Part One.
"Why I'm a Reagan Conservative, Our Model for Unity and Actions: the Contract with America, " and "How the Republican's Lost Their Way" are the main divisions of Part Two: Learning from History.
"Part Three: Moving Forward: Reclaiming the Future" includes the following chapters: "To Be or Not to Be: A Third Party?, What Are Our First Principles?", and "Items for Victory," which is basically the blueprint of another "Contract with America" that Conservatives should be running on in the new election and beyond. Sean's upbeat, positive, boundless enthusiasm will provide the voters with much needed encouragement for the huge job ahead. Sean believes the voters must take back the nation from the socialists who would turn the USA into a colder version of Cuba or Obama's version of Robert Mugabe's Zimbabwe, Africa.
Hannity doesn't believe that Obama even likes America and he wants to change it to a socialist utopia that would put it on a level field with the rest of the second and third world nations.
These chapter titles are self-explanatory. The material contained in them is pure "Hannitism." Whether readers agree with his philosophy or reasoned observations and opinions before reading this book, the reader will certainly find his ideas mentally stimulating. Each reader will sense whether there is validity in his fears for the country's freedom and economic health or if he is simply wrong in his assumptions.
Two of the strongest opinions in this book are that a third party would be playing into the current Congress and President's hands by reassuring their re-election by splitting the opposing votes. The other major theme is that the public is fearful of the government. Never before in this reviewer's life has he feared his government's actions and the motives behind them. Any citizen who like me, is experiencing any kind of uneasiness with how the new administration is governing should probably make this required reading. Sean was one of the first media people to point out that Obama was saying one thing, but doing exactly the opposite of what he promised. That's straight from the Karl Marx and Saul Alinsky rules for radicals. The ends justify any means necessary--any means necessary.
In the first year of his administration the Federal Government has taken over the mortgage market through Freddie-Mac and Fanny Mae; it has assumed control of Ford and General Motors; it has completely taken over the student loan program; it controls most of the banking industry and is now virtually in charge of the one-sixth of the economy that is health care and will soon be totally in control of it. The Obama administration has done all this in spite of the fact that the government is bankrupt. Our children and grandchildren will be little more than serfs slaving for the warlords.
For those people unfamiliar with his radio or cable show, this book could prove disturbingly eye opening. It's an easy read and doesn't get bogged down like so many others that make the reader's eyes glaze over. As much as books on this kind of a subject can be, it's a page-turner.
This is not as substantial an exposition on the peril we are currently in as is "Liberty and Tyranny" by Mark Levin. Part of me wishes that it were. But, I had to remind myself - that is not what this book set out to be, nor what it is. Long time listeners of Hannity will not find much new ground here. That's okay. The book, instead, gives you a concise and ordered progression of the arguments that Sean brings to the airwaves each and every day. Mainstream conservatism has lost its way a bit in the last few years. This book is a beacon for both wonderers and wanderers. Sean has a great quote from Dick Armey in the book that crystallized this for me:
"I've always wondered why Republicans insist on acting like Democrats in hopes of retaining political power, while Democrats act like us in order to win."
The book is broken down in to three parts. The first is a succinct, yet thorough exploration of Obama's past associations and current appointees, and what those portend for his administration. Again, for longtime listeners, this won't be new ground. What you do get is the benefit (or misfortune) of over a year's worth of decisions, appointments, and actions by Obama, to use a lens with which to view Sean's predictions. He could have very easily stolen the title of another conservative icon's books and called this missive - "See, I Told You So".
In the second part of the book, Sean discusses the great successes of conservatism over the last 30+ years, as well as his own political foundation. He is a Reagan conservative, and laces this books with quote and insights from Reagan that are as relevant to today's political discourse as they were when he said them 30 or more years ago. He details the impact that the Contract on America has had on the discourse in Washington, and how the Republicans ultimately lost their way - leading to Democratic majorities we have today.
The last section of the book deals with Sean's roadmap to victory. For me, it was a little light as far as being a roadmap. Instead, what it offered was great insight into the core values that conservatives share, and should unabashedly proclaim in the public square. Using those core values as a starting point, it will be up to our candidates to develop an actual game plan. Perhaps the most important thing Sean does in this book is to present a forceful argument against starting a third party. He deftly lays to rest the allure of that road by revisiting the one major accomplishment of the last serious push to create a third party in America - Ross Perot. That accomplishment? Electing Bill Clinton with 43% of the vote.
"Conservative Victory" was a good read. It was quick, well researched, well edited, and well thought out. As I said earlier, it serves a need we have right now in the conservative movement. It's a study guide and reference to be used in keeping ourselves honest and on the right path. A gut check about what it means to be a conservative. As Sean says in the book:
"The true key to conservative victory is to stay true to conservative principles; to convey the message clearly and powerfully; and to refuse to let liberals distort what we stand for and what is in our hearts."
The real test will be - will those that run for, and hopefully attain high office in November, adhere to these principles and give the people the voice in Washington that they so desperately need? Only time will tell.
With that established, I bought this book hoping to learn what I could do to return our country to its founding principles. What I found was a thoughtful, well-laid out explanation of just who Obama is (his history), his promises while campaigning, his actual policies after winning the election, and an educated expection of this plans going forward.
I had a general sense that I didn't agree with the direction Obama was taking us, but my specific proofs for why were nebulus. This book makes everything crystal clear. It provides people, statements, examples, policies and their results to enable a thinking individual to understand why we need to change course as a nation. It could be a great book to reference in discussions with people who truly want to know why Obama is dangerous for America.
Wow! Insightful and scary. These insights were often simply quotes, not his opinion. This book provides the proof that the people Obama chooses to surround himself with and appoint are truly radicals--I've heard this expression before and never appreciated it until now.
Another insight was the "why?" behind Obama's direction. As a patriotic American, I could never understand just why someone would want policies that don't work, but rather produce high unemployment, dependency, economic decline, and increased insecurity as a nation. Hearing Obama and his associates in their own words, along with Sean's explanation gave me understanding.
After all that muck, the book ended on a positive, encouraging note. It had many quotes from Reagan I had never heard before--the man was brilliant! He faced the same challenges we do today, and he had effective solutions that are proven to have worked.
In short, this book is a fascinating, scary, insightful, concise, well-written, encouraging summary of the governmental challenges we face today--balanced with solutions. A must read for those who want to be informed!
This was your first book I've read, and your writing is even better than your commentary. THANKS SEAN!
As a Reagan Conservative Sean puts forth the way we can stop Barrack Obama's attack on America! Reagan principles by way of electing conservatives who will promise to uphold such principles (and weed out the Rinos that have allowed for America to be used like a shopmart) into office. We don't have to agree on all conservative principles, let's say 85%;most important we have to agree on the fiscal principles to bring back our opportunities and increase our chances at prosperity. We need to unit under such principles and stay away from creating a third-party that could split the party and allow America to be changed forever.
Conservative Victory is truly a book of its time, and one that will no doubt inform you.
Thank you Sean Hannity for this wonderful book and for providing a blueprint to get us back to the American dream!!
