Marco Jansen is a left-hand fast-bowling allrounder who was born on May 1 2000 in Klerksdorp, South Africa. He is the son of Jacobus Jansen (aka Koos) an ex-Rugby player who played for the Free State Cheetahs. The mother of his son, Erna Pretorius is an ex- Netball player.

Jansen has twin brothers, Duan Jansen as well as two other sisters named Bianca Jansen and Leandro Jansen. The twin of his brother Duan has also been a professional cricketer as well as a speedy bowler like Marco.

Education

Marco had attended Laerskool Goudkop, a primary school in his hometown of Klerksdorp. Marco later went to the Potchefstroom Gimnasium which is a public Afrikaans-medium High School located in Potchefstroom, North West Province, South Africa.

Domestic Career

On April 8, 2018, Jansen made his List A debut for North West in the 2017-18 CSA Provincial One-Day Challenge. On the 11th of October, 2018 the player made his debut as a first-class player in the team North West in the 2018-19 3-Day CSA Provincial Cup.

He was named a member of being part of the South African national under-19 cricket team in January 2019, in advance of their trip to India. In the 2018-19, CSA 3-Day Provincial Cup Jansen was the top taker of wickets in the tournament for North West, with 27 wickets taken in six games.

International Career

Jansen was included in South Africa’s Test team for the series against Pakistan in the month of January 2021. On the 26th of December 2021, 2021, he played his debut in the Test match against India. Wiaan Mulder was able to catch Jasprit Bumrah on the third slip, his first wicket in a test.

He was given his very first One Day International (ODI) call-up in January 2022 to play South Africa’s series with India. On the 19th of January, 2022, he played his debut in ODI in the ODI series of South Africa against India.
