Philip I of Auvergne

Philip I of Auvergne (10 November 1323-10 August 1346) was Count of Auvergne and Boulogne from 1338 to 1346 as the husband of Countess Joan I of Auvergne.

Biography[]

Philip was born in 1323, the son of Duke Odo IV of Burgundy and Countess Joan III of Burgundy (the daughter of King Philip V of France). In 1338, Philip married Joan I of Auvergne and thus became the co-ruler of Auvergne and Boulogne. In 1340, he fought alongside his father against Robert III of Artois at Saint-Omer, and, in 1346, he fell from his horse and died during the Siege of Aiguillon. His son would go on to become Duke Philip I of Burgundy on Odo IV's death.
