CSK 167/8 (20)
DC 140/8 (20)
Chennai Super Kings won by 27 runs
PLAYER OF THE MATCH
Ravindra Jadeja

Chennai Super Kings consolidate their position at the second spot with this win. However, this is a big blow for Delhi as they can only get to 14 points even if they win their remaining games. That means their fate is no more in their own hands. After 55 matches, no team is out of the race and no team has booked a playoff spot either. On that note, it's time to bring the curtains down on this encounter. Tune in tomorrow for Kolkata Knight Riders vs Rajasthan Royals. Until then, it's goodbye.

How did you fare in your fantasy game tonight? You could have done well had you gone by our experts' suggestion of having Jadeja and Axar for captain/vice-captain choices as well as picking Pathirana and Marsh. For such insightful picks, keep checking out our Fantasy Handbook.

Ravindra Jadeja | Player of the Match: As a spinner, feels good when the ball is turning and holding. We practise here, we know what's the ideal length and pace. The visiting team needs time to adapt. We are taking advantage of the home conditions. Everyone's doing their job. We are doing a good job collectively. (On batting higher) I keep hearing Mahi bhai's chants. If I bat higher, then the crowd will wait for me to get out. As long as the team wins, I am happy.

MS Dhoni: It turned a lot in the second half. We know that our spinners use a lot more seam than some of the other bowlers. We thought it'll slow down. We didn't know what's a good score. That's why I wanted the bowlers to bowl their best deliveries but not look for wickets every delivery. That's when you start not bowling well. I felt 166-170 was a good score. But as a batting unit, we can do better. The good thing is Moeen and Jaddu got a chance to bat. As we get closer to the last phase of the tournament, it's important that everybody has a few deliveries under their belt. We need to be happy with our batting. I would have loved Mitch (Santner), he's a bowler that has done very well on flat wickets with the new ball. He hits the seam and bowls at a good pace. He (Gaikwad) is batting really well, he's somebody once he starts scoring, he's very effortless. He's somebody who's happy to rotate. He has the game awareness. He is ready to adapt. You rarely get people like that. People who read the game, those are the kind of players you need in your team. This is what my job is, I have told them this is what I am supposed to do, don't make me run a lot and it has been working. This is what I need to do, happy to contribute.

Most wickets in death overs (16-20) this season:
12 - Matheesha Pathirana (ER: 7.86)
10 - Tushar Deshpande (ER: 12.49)
9 - Harshal Patel (ER: 11.24)

DC spinners vs CSK spinners today:
DC (Axar, Kuldeep and Lalit): 11-0-89-4 | ER: 8.09
CSK (Theekshana, Moeen and Jadeja): 10-0-51-1 | ER: 5.1

CSK’s third straight win against the Delhi Capitals. They have now beaten DC in seven games in a row at Chepauk since 2011.

Deepak Chahar: It was swinging nicely and at the same time, the pitch was slow. I had a chat with Mahi bhai, when the wickets are getting slower, you don't need to bowl fast, bowl slow and swing it, it's difficult for the batters to get the boundaries in the powerplay, he said. We thought the wicket would slow down in the 2nd innings and it was cloudy, so no dew - that's why Mahi bhai decided to bat first. 165 was a par score on this track. Powerplay was crucial as the ball comes nicely and we had a great powerplay. It is very difficult with injuries, every time you get injured you start from zero. Still not 100% but trying to do a job to contribute to the team.

David Warner: Back to losing three wickets. We lost a wicket in the first over. Our opening combination is crucial. We lost a wicket to a run-out. We threw wickets away. Put too much on pressure on ourselves. Was a gettable total. To sum it up, we needed a better first six. We couldn't rotate strike. We needed to try different things but we couldn't. When you get a wide half-tracker you can't hit it to cover. We should have executed better with those wide half-trackers.

23:16 Local Time, 17:46 GMT, 23:16 IST: Classic CSK performance at Chepauk. On a tricky surface, they opted to bat and posted 167 on the board. That turned out to be more than enough for the hosts. Deepak Chahar nipped out both the openers and a horrible mix-up resulted in Marsh's downfall. The visitors had lost their top three inside four overs on a slow surface even before MSD had introduced spin. Manish Pandey and Rossouw stitched a 59-run stand for the fourth wicket but that came at run-a-ball. The CSK spinners choked DC with spin and the visitors couldn't recover after that. Matheesha Pathirana was a touch expensive but he picked three wickets as he coupled his yorkers with the slower deliveries.
