Patti Smith's stunningly original debut, 'Horses', had been released just a few weeks earlier. Although the record has since become a landmark release, and widely cited as one of Rock music's greatest albums (not least by 'Rolling Stone', 'Time', 'New Musical Express', and a host of other respected journals), at the time Patti was still performing in small clubs such as New York City's 400-capacity Bottom Line, located at 15, West Fourth Street, and venue for this very gig. One of a string of seven sell-out performances Smith gave at this legendary Greenwich Village club in December 1975, they were intended as warm-ups for her first major tour of the USA, planned to begin in early 1976.

Show took place on December 27, 1975 at the Bottom Line in New York City. Initially recorded for a FM radio broadcast, so you know the sound quality will (at least - definitely should) be good. Most memorable tracks of this previously unreleased archive recording are the recital (and brutally, realistic) "Ni^^er Book", her respectfully played Lou Reed cover of "We're Gonna Have A Real Good Time Together", the awesome "Privilege (Set Me Free)", "Ain't It Strange", "Space Monkey" (co-written by Television's - Tom Verlaine), the '60's garage rock staple "Louie Louie", the eleven-minute rocking "Birdland", the Stones classic "Time Is On My Side" and her cover of The Who's show-stopper of a finale "My Generation". Essential.
Patti Smith seems to be appreciated or disliked, I'm not finding many in between. This performance is charged with emotion and completely enjoyable for me, a fan. My wife, who is not a fan, was surprised at how good the performance was. Audio quality surprisingly good for the time.
Fairly good recording from an FM radio broadcast. No tape hiss, but clearly recorded from the radio, not the soundboard. This was a pretty standard set, with no outstanding improvisations. Well played but not inspired. She makes a very clever comment about knowing she's being recorded for radio. If you're looking for bootleg Patti Smith, the "Bicentenary Blues" from 3 months later is much better.
This is an awesome recording--one that I have never heard until I bought this one. I say that because I have several bootleg albums of Patti Smiths live performances. The reading of her poetry on the first album is extremely special. If you are a fan this is a must.
The newly formed Patti Smith Group have just released their first album Horses . The critics , stunned by that thrashing medley of sounds , are still not quite sure what to make of it .
Patti + her group are in front of a live audience of a few hundred in a small club in New York called The Bottom Line . Anything might happen !
Patti's been reciting her poetry to live audiences for a few years now + boy does she put on a good show !
They call out their requests + she does not disappoint . Sounding sexy + snarky as Hell but also girly sweet she serves up a potent witch's brew of seduction , hypnotism , raw feeling + emotions as she connects with her audience in that way of her's .
Hear her lust after Gloria , win the lottery in Free Money , cry at Redondo Beach + scare everyone half to death with her rendition of the brand new single simply called Horses .
A sumptuous feast from the High Priestess of Rock when she was little more than its Bad Girl !

Ho comprato il disco per un regalo alla mia compagna e devo dire che sono pienamente soddisfatto della scelta , consiglio per gli appassionati del genere e del artista.
Bought for my husband's birthday delighted with the CD but then in his eyes Patti can do no wrong. Having seen her live, got to admit she really is awesome!
