Magdalene Sibylle (or Magdalena Sibylla), Markgrafin von Brandenburg-Bayreuth, was the fourth daughter and fifth child of Christian von Brandenburg, Markgraf von Bayeuth, and his wife Marie, Herzogin von Preßen, both from the House of Hohenzollern, and was probably born at Schloss Bayreuth.[1]
Magdalene's birth date is not totally clear, a letter held in the Archives of Marburg, written on the 28 October 1612, indicates she was born between 10 and 11 at night, but it's not clear whether this is the night of 27-28 October or 28-29 October.[2] This is thought to be an old style date, and her birth is often rendered as new style, usually 7 November 1612, [1] but it should probably be 6 or 7 November. Other sources have 1 November 1612[3] but this seems to go against the primary source. She was baptised on 25 November 1612 at Bayreuth.[1]
She married 13 (old style) or 23 (new style) of November 1638 at Dredsen, her first cousin, Johann Georg von Sachsen, the eldest surviving son of Johann Georg I, Kurfürst von Sachsen (Elector of Saxony), and his second wife, Magdalene Sibylle, Herzogin von Preußen.
They had 3 children;
Her husband succeeded his father as Elector of Saxony as Johann Georg II in 1656,[2] and Magdalene Sibylle became the Electress (Kurfürstin).
