LSU Tigers Snapshot Profile: No. 59 Desmond Little

Going into the 2022 football season, LSU Wire will be looking at each player listed on the Tigers’ roster.

Over the preseason, each profile will cover where the player is from, how recruiting websites rated them coming out of high school, and what role they will play for Brian Kelly this season.

Desmond Little is a former three-star defensive end from Pritchard, Alabama, which is a suburb of mobile. He’s seen sporadic action during his time with the Tigers, but he’s coming off his most impactful campaign yet in 2021. As a junior in 2022, he will look to work his way into the defensive line rotation. That’s an area of considerable depth, though, and finding the field will be anything but a breeze.

Depth Chart Overview

Despite being a relatively unheralded recruit, Little earned offers coming out of high school from several other SEC teams in Tennessee, Ole Miss and in-state Alabama. Instead, he signed with LSU and redshirted his first year with the team in 2019.

As a redshirt freshman in 2020, he saw action in two games but didn’t record any stats. He saw his playing time increase to five games last fall, and he totaled 10 tackles, three of which were for loss and 2.5 of which were sacks.

He enters 2022 with some momentum on his side, but he faces a deep edge rusher group. The starting duo of B.J. Ojulari and Ali Gaye should be a strength of the team, and depth pieces like Saivion Jones, Zavier Carter and Soni Fonua likely all sit above him as things currently stand.
