"Angels" and "Geometry" are two of the best songs I've ever heard, and I truly mean that. Unfortunately, the rest of Mavericks is homogeneous and easily forgettable. My hopes weren't completely shattered, but this album made me realize that Stamey and Holsapple could never manage to top the first two dB's albums.

When two such talents add up, the result can be as stunning as 'Mavericks' which is even better than anything The dB's ever did.

My god, just look at those two on the cover. Look at them! Is that a cardigan? They must've been going out of their way to look non-threatening and affable. They look like a couple of goofy old dads playing dad-rock. They should not be able to make such infectious, quirky pop. Yeah, sometimes the music sounds a bit too much like a couple of goofy old dads playing dad-rock, but more often than not it's just great. I'll still take the dB's over this any day of the week, but it's nice to hear a reunion that capitalizes on the songwriting strengths of the musicians but has still moved forward. They're not trying to relive glory days here, they've moved on, but they still have some catchy melodies they'd like to share. So why not sit on the floor cross-legged and listen in. Maybe they'll play something groovy.

Very cool and relaxed power pop with plenty of highlights ranging from the driving "I wanna break your heart" to the quirky "Geometry", the swirling "Angels" or the marvellous Byrds cover "Here without you". This reunion of the key members of one of the 80's best pop bands (The dB's) really should have lasted longer than it did.

Well, it looked like we weren't going to get any more DB's albums, so the two leads stepped up to the plate for this fine fine record.

One of the best 'power pop' albums ever made.
