Lots of fun history of trains in America! We loved being able to climb into a few train cars and wish they had more that were hands-on, but it was good enough. They had a lot of really interesting info about the history of the railroad. We also loved the exhibit of model trains on the third floor, especially the cool dioramas. We only had an hour to spare but managed to see everything quickly!

Old Sacramento is set just by the river and famous Railroad Museum we didn't manage to visit unfortunately, as we came late.
The whole area is pretty small (two parallel streets over 3 blocks), so you can cover it in an hour or two. Parking along the streets (metered) or across in a garage (more expensive).
We really enjoyed our time there, walking by beautifully restored buildings from 19c era, visiting some saloons, quirky shops, took a walk by the river to Tower bridge, etc...
However, there were homeless and sketchy people around, some of them yelling and arguing with nobody which spoiled our impression.

We were impressed by the curation n its collections, especially 19th century californian paintings. We get a glimpse of what it was like in that era. The building itself has lots of interesting history too. We spent about 4 hrs there. There is also an interesting collections of natives baskets and porcelain.

My wife and I, touring from New Jersey, took a docent tour of the capitol. First, the grounds are very impressive with palms swaying around the perimeter and the dome very prominent. While we gained some insight from the tour, we were disappointed. Our guide, while knowledgeable, was a fast talker and not albeit clear. It was hard to pick up on his rehearsed delivery: we were led to several rooms no longer used rather than seeing and learning about today's working government. Most disappointing was that we weren't brought into either the Senate or Assembly chambers; a must with our other capitol visits. We did visit the Assembly on our own later, but didn't get into the Senate. It was fun seeing the portraits of Arnold and Ron, but why is Reagans statue in the basement adjacent to the gift shop?

We had a wonderful guided tour by Con Oamek. Con shared so many stories and information as he walked us through the evolution of the automobile. The museum has gas, electric, steam automobiles, yes, that's correct, STEAM! As Con said, after 45 minutes of heating the water, it went really fast! LOL

Enjoyed every minute listening to.his stories about Rita Hayworth's car to Magnum PI, Tom Selleck's Ferrari 308. They even have the vehicle used on the set of Ford vs. Ferrari.

Mostly Ford because the museum was once owned by Ford. Plenty of Buicks and a few Chevy's. Gotta go, great time, spent one and a half hours.

This is a beautiful park right in the middle of Sacramento, with much to see, from many memorial and honorific sculptures, to a native plant garden, to an amazing rainbow display of roses (even in winter), at least one redwood, cacti ... and more. I tried to take one of the free public tours; after a late and glitchy start, I'm glad I persisted as the tour guide (once located) was generous with his time and knowledgeable. If you take the tour, you'll learn historic and cultural facts you never could otherwise. But if you can't take the tour, still visit: just walking and enjoying is worthwhile. The park is full of benches and is a nice place to sit, contemplate, and enjoy lunch or coffee. It even has public bathrooms. Yes, I encountered some of Sacramento's homeless, but as a solo female everyone was respectful and nobody bothered or approached me at all, so please don't let that put you off. From here if you have the energy you can walk down the Capitol Mall all the way to the Old Sacramento area.

We parked at Beals Point recreation area on a beautiful sunny spring day and unloaded our E-Bikes and rode 19 miles down to Nimbus Dam overlook on Lake Natoma and back. It’s a really nice paved multi use trail, scenic and although downhill from Folsom it’s a pretty gentle slope. We would like to come back and explore/ride more of it. It said 32 miles to Old Sacramento.

My friends and I attended Mass on Sunday morning while visiting Sacramento. The sanctuary is awe inspiring. The priest gave a great message and personally greeted the worshippers after the service. It's well worth a visit to see the sanctuary without attending a service.

The American River is the reason I moved here 10+ years ago. Gorgeous and peaceful.

Until you get on parkways. The bicyclists who ride the shared paths on the rivers parkway are psychopathic and assault people daily. Parks service and police can’t be bothered. I have seen them run into dogs, people, and children on both the paved and dirt paths. Then they yell at the injured for being in “their way”. Pedestrians first is not a law recognized by these maniacs.

I would highly recommend you practice P.E.A.C.E (people engaging against cyclists extremism) by bringing pepper spray on your walks or wielding a stick to create distance between yourselves and the tires.

California is a stand your ground state and you can legally pepper spray people trying to assault you

So, let's start with some basics:

The only original remaining structure of Sutter's Fort is the "main building"--a two story structure in the center of the complex. It was built between 1841 and 1843. Everything else at "Sutter's Fort State Historic Park" is a reconstruction, based on historic documentation.

Entry is $5 for adults; $3 for ages 6 to 17; and children enter for free. Sutter's Fort State Historic Park does not have its own parking lot. Metered city parking is available on 26th and K streets, and there are several public parking lots in the vicinity.

It has been 25 years since my last visit. Since then, a lot of re-construction and restoration work has been performed. There are a more displays and demonstrations than I remember. (Coincidentally, school field trips were taking place during my visit. I kept my distance, but was able to observe staff and volunteers give their presentations and conduct their demonstrations.)

If you're interested in history, Sutter's Fort is well worth the visit. Everyone can walk away with from their visit with a number of different of interpretations, based on context of analysis.

BTW ... The State Indian Museum is adjacent to the Fort. If you have the time, you can tour that museum for a separate admission fee.

Went here for a walk and had such fun. There was a car show going on and we got to see over 100 cooly done retro vehicles. The park is well shaded so you can walk comfortably even in warmer weather.

We had a great time and we didn't even see the Fairyland part or the Golf Course...an amazing location!
