Ella Taylor L.A. Weekly A masterfully smart and soulful film that bows low before genre even as it betrays it. Oct 20, 2021 Full Review Henry Sheehan Orange County Register Adapted from a novel said to be unadaptable and set in a genre that has seemed increasingly played out, it brings clarity and life to its art and to life. That's a pretty good definition of a masterpiece, isn't it? Rated: A+ Oct 20, 2021 Full Review Jay Carr Boston Globe One of the things the film conveys, in addition to institutionalized corruption, is the energy and excitement of a city that knows it's on the move. L.A. Confidential is juicy dynamite. Rated: 4/4 Oct 20, 2021 Full Review Dimitris Passas PopMatters L.A. Confidential‘s representation of a long-gone era in Los Angeles is exemplary, and the 1950s are enlivened on screen in an accurate and opulent manner. Nov 28, 2023 Full Review Keith Garlington Keith & the Movies The flawless ensemble..., the masterfully written story, the vibrant yet gritty vision of 1950s LA - most everything clicks in this fittingly cynical and undeniably seductive period crime thriller that still maintains its style and sizzle. Rated: 4.5/5 Mar 8, 2023 Full Review Dan DiNicola The Daily Gazette (Schenectady, NY) The best and richest crime-cop drama in decades... This is an instant classic. David S This is an overrated stinker. The hilariously thin plot is riddled with unmotivated characters doing stupid things that aren’t believable in the least. Our hero dorks the slut he knows is an informant and a decoy? And to what end? So the plot can careen into more predictably violent encounters? Our Hush-Hush guy gets snuffed by the corrupt chief? And to what end? So they don’t have to pay DeVito anymore money for the rest of the film? I mean, you snuff everyone except the two characters who are the most snuffable, punchable characters in the whole charade? A thousand times no. May I be dunked in a toilet and held out a window before I admit to watching this thing again. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 05/25/24 Full Review Savannah G I loved the Class of this movie—the Narration and the imagery. The cinematography reminded me of old Hollywood, and that is what really made it make sense. It's a Cool Story with a great cast! there were no mistakes or obvious distractions in the movie, so it really was one that I just enjoyed watching and wanted to see how it ended! Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 05/25/24 Full Review Audience Member The plot gets too complicated and it involves many characters. Also, we can not identify with a protagonist because they are too many and honestly too indifferent. Not a legendary noir film if you ask me. I though it would be something like "Seven" but no, it's at most , good. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 05/20/24 Full Review Casey L The line between the good and bad cop got blurred. Interesting twists and ending Rated 3 out of 5 stars 05/19/24 Full Review Aender S Great movie, it just takes quite some time to get going. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 05/13/24 Full Review Aldo G One of the best Neo-noirs I've ever screened. Perfection at all levels. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/10/24 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
