Chesterton Senior High School Reviews
Rating 3.86 out of 5 528 reviews
The school is very safe and has optional, very rigorous challenging classes, and this school prepares you for college unlike any other nearby. The curriculum is very professional and worthwhile for most classes, and they offer so many different classes and opportunities, so you can really explore! The worst part of the experience is the strict late work policy that most classes follow, being very unforgiving about late or missing assignments unlike college. Other than that, it's a great school and I wouldn't have wanted to go anywhere else!
Overall, Chesterton High School isn't too bad. It's a high school, so any issues that come from having roughly 2000 teenagers aged 14-18 in a single building are there, but CHS handles what they can well enough. Fights are occasional, but discipline is swift and just. Students in financial stress are supported, and the counselors do their best to help all students with whatever they need.
Chesterton Senior High School wasn't a terrible school. I believe some of our sports teams won state-wide, regional, or national competitions. Overall, our academics were wonderful (it depended on the teacher, but I also felt that we had a majority of good-quality teachers). We were encouraged to take a multitude of different classes, and we even had a personal financial responsibility class that was offered; I took that class, and it prepared me for being an adult. Additionally, I do pay attention to dress codes because the kind of dress code enforced can reflect on possible sexism or even sexualism of students, but the dress codes were fair while maintaining appropriate attire.
What I wish I could change was the fact that personal financial responsibility wasn't a required class. I appreciate that my school offered it in the first place because I have friends who have never heard of that class. But the point still stands that it teaches integral life skills and information.
