Drew is a young woman who drives to a small town she has never been to while in a trance. A year ago in this town Laura, who looked just like Drew, was murdered. Everyone assumed that Laura's boyfriend Teddie who went missing at the same time as the murder had done it, but Drew starts having dream sequences and trances that imply otherwise. Gradually through investigation and with the guidance of more visions from Laura, Drew uncovers the story behind the murders.

NIGHTSCREAM is a classic TV thriller that’d fit somewhere between the Hallmark Channel and Lifetime in 1997. The acting is big, the cliffhangers are bigger, and the drama is turned up to the level of DAYS OF OUR LIVES, which is to say real high. There’s a nosy journalist, a greedy landowner, and a really crappy boyfriend. The plot, melodrama, and surreal dream sequences are pages ripped savagely from the TWIN PEAKS playbook. Still, NightScream possesses a lot of nostalgic, TV movie charm. A stacked, mid-90’s television cast. Soap opera level theatrics. Over-the-top twists. And a darkness that can only be hinted at thanks to broadcasting restrictions. Blatant cash grabs at popular properties. Basically, NightScream encompasses everything that can be so much cheesy fun about televised terror.
I'm no Twin Peaks expert so I can't tell you just how deep the Twin Peaks rip-offing goes here, but yeah the broad strokes of this are super super Twin Peaks. And ending your made-for-TV movie about Candace Cameron solving the murder of "Laura" in a small town with a WILDLY blatant Chris Isaak rip... I mean, yeah.
Otherwise, this has a fun cast (Casper Van Dien! Teri Garr!) and is pretty silly with its twists and turns. Cameron is honestly awful, but in an endearing way. Probably not going to do much for people who don't like 90s roapy-soapy cheese but I enjoyed it.
This super-lame, and blatant, made-for-television Twin Peaks rip-off isn't satisfied with just a little intellectual-property theft. It steals wholesale from the series, from taking place in the Pacific Northwest to being a murder mystery about a teenaged girl named Laura to having suspects including her stepdad and her boyfriend to even cloning a Chris Isaak song from the show. And then, they don't stop at stealing from David Lynch. They even ripped off Tears for Fears' song 'Sowing the Seeds of Love' in one scene, making it as musically similar as it could be without a lawsuit. There are two songs in NIGHTSCREAM that sound as close to “Sowing the Seeds of Love” by Tears for Fears and “Wicked Game” by Chris Isaak as one can get without violating copyright law. Fears for Tears and Kris Isaac? Those songs well represent NIGHTSCREAM and TWIN PEAKS.

It was terrible yet for some reason it kept my attention. The mom was great and the full house girl was not so great and then there was 8 different twists all of which were fucked up!!!
It would’ve just been an awesome straight forward movie that could’ve kept it simple with a ghost solving her own case with a doppelgänger but no, the late 90s wanted to fit in twists till the very last second to the point you don’t know what’s going on because you’re all tWiSt3d

As Made-for-TV movies go...nothing beats the 70's. This '97 Twin Peaks'esq toss-a-away wasn't the worst...big Lifetime vibes and some twists that made it enjoyable.
It goes without saying the Cover Art and the Title are both wildly misleading.
...the plot is too convoluted & preposterous to unravel.
Props to Mrs. CCB for standing up the woke nonsense and going her own way - her integrity is admirable.
