Luck of the Draw

Bonnie Raitt

About “Luck of the Draw”

The second album in her partnership with Don Was and Capitol Records, Luck of the Draw is sometimes cited as Nick of Time, Part II for its continuation of the previous album’s sound and many of its collaborators.

Though the slickness of Was’s production was criticized in some reviews, others noted that their simpatico work relationship compared favorably to earlier pairings, such as Peter Asher and Linda Ronstadt.

The album is dedicated to Stevie Ray Vaughan, the blues guitar legend and friend whom Raitt credited with helping her overcome addictions to drugs and alcohol.

A total of two singles were released from the album: “Something to Talk About” and “I Can’t Make You Love Me”. Commerically, “Something to Talk About” became the biggest hit of her career, peaking at #5 on the Hot 100.
