It is with great sadness and heartbreak that we announce the passing of our mother, Janet Nugent, on May 6th, 2024, at the age of 81, surrounded by her loving family at Pleasant View Towers.  Predeceased by her parents Edward & Lena Nugent and her sister Elizabeth Nugent.

Leaving to mourn with a lifetime of cherished memories are her loving sons, John (Denise) and Jason (Renee), her much beloved granddaughters Kelsey and Sarah Crocker whom she adored and made her a "proud nana".  The level of pride she had for Kelsey and Sarah was immeasurable and that pride continued to grow as Kelsey and Sarah flourished into the beautiful young intelligent women they are today.  Janet also leaves to mourn, a brother Edward (Dianne) and a sister Martha, her niece Meghan and nephews Kearney, Brenan, Fraser, Jay, and Sean.

Mom also leaves behind Patrick (Pat) O'Keefe who brought a sparkle to her eye every time they were together.  Having dated as teenagers, they reconnected later in life and for the past 13 years they could be found attached at the hip.  They travelled to Florida, attended hockey games, ate at many local food establishments, and went for drives every day.   These were her favorite things to do with Pat.  Even as Mom's health deteriorated and was experiencing pain, she somehow mustered up the strength to go out with Pat every day.  Her desire to spend time with Pat was more intense than the physical pain she was experiencing.   It was amazing to witness her strength, determination, and their deep connection.  It was a real-life love story.  Our family was so lucky to have Pat in Mom's life.  He would do anything for Mom and she for him.  We are forever grateful for the time they spent together.  We are also thankful to the O’Keefe family for welcoming Mom into their family.

Mom had a long and distinguished career (35 years) with the Provincial Government of Newfoundland & Labrador, as a Manager of Human Resources.

Mom also leaves behind a large circle of close lifelong friends and neighbors.  She was very sociable and never missed an opportunity to attend social events or host a dinner party, all of which were “fabulous.” She loved her neighbors and considered herself to be incredibly lucky to have them nearby, they would do anything for Mom.

Mom had a sense of style that was unmatched and took great pride in presenting herself with impeccable detail.  She loved shopping, and you would often cross paths with her at Winners, always looking for good deal and a new outfit for her next social event.

A special thank you to the staff at Pleasant View Towers for the care and compassion provided to Mom during her short stay.

Visitation to take place from Caul's Funeral Home, 84 LeMarchant Road, on Saturday, May 11th from 2-4pm and 7-9pm. Funeral service will be held at Caul's Chapel, LeMarchant Road, on Sunday, May 12th at 2:00 p.m. Inurnment to take place on Tuesday May 14th at R.C. Cemetery Kilbride at 11:15 a.m.

Flowers gratefully accepted or donations may be made in Janet's memory to the Heart & Stroke Foundation - Newfoundland, or the Alzheimer's Society - Newfoundland and Labrador.
