Domina is a drama about the first years of the Roman Empire which appears on the US on EPIX. In much of Europe, it generally appears on Sky TV. Domina premiered on Sunday, June 6, 2021 on EPIX. In February 2022, the show was renewed by MGM+ for a second season which aired in 2023.

Premise[]

After the assassination of Julius Caesar, Rome is plunged into Civil War. Livia Drusilla, the golden girl of the prominent Claudii Family, loses everything and is forced into exile. Ten years later she returns, determined to regain everything that was stolen from her. Which she does, brilliantly, by marrying the man who stole it.

Domina follows Livia’s journey from a naïve young girl to Rome’s most powerful and influential Empress, driven by a deep desire to avenge her father and secure power for her sons.

The series is a visceral and authentic family saga, grounded in historical accuracy, bringing to life the incredible true stories of the women who would create one of the most enduring and fascinating dynasties of all time.

Season 1[]

Set during the reign of Gaius Caesar Augustus and told through the incredible true story of his wife Livia Drusilla. We follow Livia through her exile and return to Rome, determined to regain everything that was stolen from her. This she does, brilliantly, by marrying the man who stole it. By the age of thirty, Livia has got back her property, her status and a whole lot more. But her beloved father has died fighting for the Republic – against Gaius, who is now her husband. Livia soon discovers that it’s not enough to take power, you must be able to hang onto it when everyone else wants it too.

Season 2[]

In 19 BC, when Gaius and Livia return to Rome after three years away in the Eastern Provinces. After the killing of Marcellus in Season I, Livia has worked to repair the marriage on which all her power and ambition depends, but it will face threats both old and new.Gaius and Livia are shocked to find their city in revolt, and Livia’s children in open rebellion. Over eleven turbulent years, sex, murder, betrayal and power struggles are on the menu as this season culminates in Drusus’ assassination and Livia’s discovery about the awful truth behind it.Throughout the season, Livia is made to fight harder than ever to fulfil the sacred vow she swore to her father – to restore the Republic, and Democracy, to Rome. Livia will need all of her intelligence, ambition and guile to navigate these increasingly rough political seas. She will have increasing blood on her hands, struggle with the corruption of her soul and face a terrible final choice between power and vengeance – will she be able to seize them both?
