The original LP edition is too short (6 tracks, less than 35 minutes), the CD reissues are longer (more than twice the running time !) and maybe better.
Though, the LP original edition is frankly great anyway. Sometimes I think it's sufficient, and sometimes I want to hear more, and in this case, I take the CD edition.
It's just a bit a pity that 12 minutes (approximately the third of the running time) of this album are a Stevie Winwood showcase (he sang two songs, one of Blind Faith, the other of his), despite the fact it's a Clapton concert.

All the special guests in the world won't help if the main man doesn't live up to expectations, and Clapton -- at his most smack-ridden, having by his own admission not picked up a guitar in months -- fails miserably. Steve Winwood raises some heat on "Pearly Queen", but that just makes the whole thing sadder.

I guess it stands as somewhat of a testement that Clapton can emerge from the extremely dark place he occupied at the time, and come through as well as he does. It's ragged to be sure, but enjoyable nonetheless. It helps to have such an outstanding supporting cast. Check out how tentative the music sounds on the opening cut of "Layla", and contrast that with the energy that Clapton puts forth in the closing number "Crossroads". Mr. Townshend did Eric a great favor by dragging him out of exile, but in all honesty it was a favor that we all benifited from. It got much better really fast after this, and Clapton continues strong.

I haven't had the chance to hear the Remastered version as of yet, but the memory of the original vinyl copy I used to owned long ago is still wedged in my mind.

And it wasn't a good memory.

Probably the most tired, uninspired live album I've heard in my long music-loving years. From what I've read, Eric was still in the clutches of his heroin addiction at the time so his performance was not up to his usual standards. Sadly, it really showed. Even with the guest stars, the energy level never seemed to be there at all. One of the very few albums I've returned to the store the same day I brought it. No kidding.

Better off with "E.C. Was Here" or better yet, "Just One Night".

Concert organized by Pete Townshend reuniting himself, some Traffic members, Ron Wood and Eric solo of course.
This is quite a good show in which this super-group plays several classics but I can't rate such an incomplete show, kind of highlights with only 6 tracks for a running time of about 35'. It should have been a double-album.

Forget this edition and buy Eric Clapton's Rainbow Concert instead which displays the concert with its original track-listing released in 1995, in which 8 unreleased tracks from the same concert have been added.

Certainly a unique, if not flawless, concert, and historical value is not the only thing that redeems it.

not as bad as expected, not so good as it should be...

Many people would dislike this for a number of reasons. Some would say it's because of simple fact that Clapton was still in his heroin stage. Some would say the performance is stale, or lacking greatly. Some of these can valid, but they can also be right.

However, in this case, the performance is very solid, even for the drug addicted Clapton who is almost half there in person and mind. I think it's a damn shame that this was not what got Clapton out of his drug use. This small portion of the entire shebang is good, but there's so much more greatness to this but it's not on this. If you ask me, get the latest release with the 2 CDs, since it has the entire thing.

Not as bad as most people make it out to be.
