Alila Ubud is celebrated for its impeccable cleanliness, with guests consistently commending the spotless rooms and the refreshing outdoor baths. Nestled in a tranquil locale, it offers stunning jungle vistas and encounters with local wildlife, albeit slightly distant from the bustling Ubud center. While the staff's attentive service receives high marks, some visitors have experienced occasional delays. The hotel's infinity pool and atmosphere are often described as serene, though there are mentions of dated decor and a need for updates. Patrons appreciate the spacious rooms boasting scenic views, yet some have pointed out the decor could use a refresh. The dining and spa services are considered good but tend to be on the pricier side.

We stayed overnight at Alila Ubud while we were temporarily based in Bali during the pandemic. They currently have a good promotional price (check their Instagram account for promos) and we were upgraded to a very large villa. Some of the flooring inside the rooms could use some maintenance (the floorboards were uneven) but overall, the rooms exceeded our expectations - especially the outdoor sitting area and the large bathtubs!

I stayed with my young son and felt safe and relaxed throughout our stay. The visual signs that showed things were sanitized (from pens to keys) help ease my mind about staying at a hotel with a young child. The place is also really quiet and relaxing if you are looking for to unwind and take a break.

The staff was friendly and provided really good service. Most importantly, everyone observed and practised appropriate health protocols - which is really important during these times.

We are hoping to go back for the end of year holidays where I plan on taking advantage of their unlimited spa offer! Looking forward to the next visit.

Bonus: families of monkeys were around the property in the early mornings and early evenings, which is great for little kids since the Ubud Monkey Forest is currently closed . Just make sure to observe appropriate distance as the monkeys can get too excited/overly friendly, especially if you have food!

This is a perfect place to enjoy nature and fresh air in a calm environment. For Indonesia residents, with domestic travel options only, this is a perfect getaway spot.
Choose the Terrace tree villa which has ample space for outdoor sitting. The room is huge with a comfortable sofa bed and bathroom is as big as the room.
During the covid-19 the hotel is only operating one restaurant ( by the poolside ) with limited menu options but the chef is always willing to make something for you, outside the menu items. The hotel staff was wearing masks all the time with Sanitizers placed everywhere. The rooms were made up when you are not around and seems like they were cleaning it up thoroughly (if not sanitizing everything).
The package we got had unlimited use of the Spa which I have never seen or heard of, so do try avail this offer while it lasts. Despite the tough times, the spirit of the hotel staff were high. Everyone from the GM to the staff at restaurant, would greet us everyday and check if we needed anything during our stay. Everyone in my family, including the kids were impressed by their service. We look forward to return to this hotel again.

We arrived to Ubud after spending 4 nights at thee Mulia Resort Nusa Dua and found Alila to be a breath a fresh air...literally

It is so calming, tranqil and relaxing that you never want to leave.
The staff are always there to help you, friendly and easy to talk to.

We opted for the villa with a private pool...great choice if you don't want to use the large pool with mountain valley views.
Room service is only a simple call

Breakfast menu is all you can eat. It is a set menu that changes every day. You order what you want and if you fell hungry just order some more.

We were lucky enough to have the local mountain monkeys drop by our villa each morning and night so there was no need to go to the Monkey Forest.

They offer a free shuttle bus into Ubud, drop off and pick up or catch a cab.
Cab was about 120000 (au$12)
Ubud is fairly relaxed, not a lot of people to annoy you around Christmas time. Shopping is easy. So many choices of restaurants and bars at all price ranges.

We were on a flop and drop holiday this time so didn't opt for any tour however there are plenty to chose from.

Don't miss an opportunity to stay at this resort.

We came here for 4 nights after being at Alila Manggis for 4 nights also. First impressions were very good but it does have it's drawbacks. We found our room very gloomy, it does have a nice balcony with a view od the jungle with all it's wonderful sounds but this room and particularly the bathroom needs attention, particularly the cracked ceiling and poor work around the handbasin. The bathroom floor gets very wet
when you take a shower as water goes everywhere and it is very slippy and is a worry. On our first evening we had dinner in the restaurant and were shown to a table with foldable wooden chairs with no cushions. When we enquired if there was Red Rice available we were told that only yellow and regular white rice was available( Red rice is good for diabetics) however on looking closely at the menu it was listed as an ingredient in two dishes, we finally got the waiter to ask the kitchen and we got it. We ate in town the next 3 nights as a result of this. This is an isolated location and you have to get a taxi to town costing 135 rupiah. You can not order an outside taxi which means you are at the mercy of the hotels prices, this was very evident when one went to see anything culturally, a 4 hout tour cost's roughly £85 when outside taxis would do it for £35/40. I feel there is an element of proctectionism going on.The hotel does have a free shuttle into town but it finishes at 3pm for the return so be prepared to haggle with local taxis before you enter the taxi and pay no more than 100 rupiah, It is in the culture of Indonesians to haggle.
there is no tipping. At breakfast when you order coffee you get freshly made coffee from the barista machine but when you ask for a second one you get an inferior coffee from a jug. Service and products vary greatly from Alila Manngis to this Alila hotel, ie: breakfast and bathroom amenities etc: The staff are excellent and it looks fantastic in the photos but one can feel a bit trapped.

Dear beefy10_10, Thank you for your review. I'm sorry to see that you did not have a great time with us. I truly appreciate your feedback on how we could improve our services and our room product. I apologize that our servers were not able to accommodate your red rice request right away. Our transportation services are provided by the local villages surrounding the hotel. They ensure that there are vehicles always available from the hotel rather than our guests having to wait for taxis to come from town, and a haggle-free experience. Thank you for coming to visit, and we hope you consider visiting us again in the future. Best regards, JP Alfonso

We had the opportunity to stay in the standard room before being upgraded to the terrace tree villa (see photos). While both rooms enjoyed the green and serene settings of the gorgeous valley and cheeky monkeys, the amenities and facilities within each room were worlds apart.

Highly recommend booking the villas despite being about double the price of a standard room. Completely worth the jungle experience that included a outdoor shower and bathtub. A cheaper alternative would be to book the deluxe room which also comes with outdoor shower and bath.

The food at the hotel was amazing with great healthy choices for those who are health conscious. While the hotel isn’t near to Ubud town, the hotel provides daily free shuttle services to Ubud town. They have daily activities like yoga and hikes for guests too. 👍

Dear bloke88, Thank you so much for your review. You're correct that a stay in Ubud is a great alternative to the beachside experience. I'll go a little further and say that it's actually a great complement as well. A lot of our guests combine their seaside stays with a stay in Ubud to get a rounded experience. The tranquil and serene jungle atmosphere is a great contrast to the typically busier beach areas. I'm glad you enjoyed the terrace tree villa as well as our culinary offerings. We certainly you hope you make your way back to us in the near future! Best regards, JP Alfonso

We stayed for New Years Eve at this nice resort in the middle of the jungle. Very relaxing, excellent staff and very good breakfast.
Rooms are also nice with outdoor shower. The resort feels to be about 20 years old but really nice. Relaxing athmosphere.
Missing shuttle bus to Ubud and no sauna should be offered at rates around USD 300 per night per room.
The pool-view to the jungle is fantastic.

Alila Ubud is a mid-range resort with a good infinity pool and excellent restaurant.

Our room (102) was well situated near reception, pool and restaurant. The decor is a little dated and maybe lacking in character but it is comfortable and had a terrace and small patch of grass overlooking the pool and jungle.

Some of the other rooms might feel a little isolated and when the hotel is full I think the pool area will become very crowded with insufficient loungers

Very quiet in the evening

Staff cheerfulness and willingness to help is outstanding

There is a baffling range of resorts around Ubud and Alila is a very good compromise con price and location.

During our stay (Feb 17 - 21) the hotel had a comfortable number of guests which gave for a relaxed and cheerful atmosphere

We had dinner one evening in the nearby very luxurious villa with pool resort and it was deserted!

Recommended for a quiet relaxing stay

Dear Christopher N, Thank you for your review. I'm happy to see that you enjoyed your time with us, and especially our restaurant. The culinary offerings are very good indeed. I appreciate your comments how the hotel would be when full. As we ideally situated close to central Bali's attractions, most of our guest use the hotel as a base camp for exploring the various sights so guests are often out on an adventure and it doesn't feel full at the resort. Thank you for complimenting our team's cheerfulness and willingness to help. They are outstanding indeed. We certainly hope to see you back some in the future! Best regards, JP Alfonso

Absolute place to unwind. Truly fantastic place located in a very photogenic jungle scenery. Outstanding breakfast offering pastries, fruit, fresh juices and smoothies, à la carte menu with warm dishes of both local and international cuisine. You could order what and how much you like. Every morning there were complimentary yoga or tai chi classes in open air. The hotel has a great clean gym with sufficient equipment for a good work out. Their spa offers divers treatments, the prices are quite high for Bali standards but the quality is great and we used it more often. The hotelroom was big enough for the both of us, could have some maintenance though, especially the bathroom. Our balcony overlooked the pool area and jungle and every early morning and afternoon the monkey family came by, relaxing on the roofs and balconies and if lucky, they knicked some food left unattended. Very funny and entertaining. The Plantation Restaurant where also breakfast is served, offers during the day lunch and in the evenings great diner options. On specific nights they have Spice Market and Barong Dance Night, which is a great watch whilst having diner. Diners we had were truly mouth watering, the rijsttafel I highly recommend. In the Cabana Lounge they offer food like salads, pizzas, burgers, tortillas but also chicken breast and ribs. The food in Cabana was also great. They serve tasty cocktails as well. If you prefer something more following your own taste, they will make it for you. The prices in the restaurants are high for Bali but the quality is high and presentation is great. The service of all employees is excellent, everyone is so friendly and truly concerned and willing to help if they notice you don't feel too well. Which happened with my partner whose back went during the first days of our stay. We enjoyed Christmas eve, Christmas day and celebrated New Year in the hotel, had superb diners/buffets with a huge range of choices of food, drinks and desserts. The music performances during these events were divers and really great. We did not want to leave. Alila Ubud, with all your employees, you have a special place in my heart! Thank you so much!

We stayed here in December for my wife's 40th and we loved it. The jungle setting is beautiful and peaceful with a magnificent pool. We ate at the main restaurant and the Cabana Lounge and both served delicious food throughout the day. Our room was clean and comfortable with a balcony and very nice shower. The staff were lovely and very helpful. We split our visit into two, visiting Gili Trawangan for a couple of days over Christmas, and the hotel stored our big bags while we were away. My wife had a nail treatment at the spa and we treated ourselves to a couple's massage, with two 90-minute massages each and lunch served in the jungle retreat. It was amazing, very relaxing and the spa staff were lovely. We saw lots of monkeys in the hotel grounds and there can be lots of insects, but that's what happens when you stay in the jungle during rainy season! There is a shuttle service to Ubud, which is handy but it doesn't run after mid-afternoon. We had a wonderful stay and we will definitely return. If you are looking for somewhere special to stay in Bali then Alila is perfect.

We had the most perfect stay in Alila and would recommend this hotel to anyone staying in the area.

The staff are exceptional, attentive, friendly and really go the extra mile.

The food here is incredible. The breakfast menu changes daily and offers a range of local cuisine (and western options). We also had lunch and dinner during our stay and would recommend staying in the hotel to sample the menu, as it was impeccable. Alongside the huge range of delicious cocktails, everything really was wonderful.

The location of the hotel is only a short taxi ride away from Ubud centre, or you can use the free shuttle bus that runs throughout the day.

Ubud is an absolute gem, slightly less busy than Bali but still has a range of eateries and shops that you can explore, alongside the Ubud Markets. We are so glad we chose to come here during our holiday.

The rooms are exceptionally clean and we also utilised the laundry service which was quick and efficient. The room offers fresh water (which is replenished twice daily). The staff also provide a turn down service before bed which is a great touch. Cold towels and water are given whilst you relax by the pool and we were even given a basket of fresh, local fruit upon arrival.

Ultimately, this is one of the best hotels we have ever stayed in and we would absolutely love (and hope we are able) to come back.

Thank you so much to the Alila Team, you have made our trip amazing!
