The minute you walk into this eclectic restaurant, the atmosphere enthralled us. The skirt steak, crab cake, and the mushroom faro soup was a delicious lunch. The art work from ceiling, walls, and decoration- seasonal (Halloween, Christmas, and New Years are not to be missed....And the hot buttered rum cocktail was just the best start to our trip.More

We have dined here many times! The decor is quite outlandish which is what makes it so much fun! The food has always been exceptional, there is a great wine list and the service is wonderful. The last time we started with the pate which...was outstanding. We then split a goat cheese and roasted tomato salad, had excellent entrees and finished with a decadent dessert. We had a nice Napa Valley Sauvignon Blanc.More

Having lived in Oakland for 50 years, I visited Jack London Square often... and even working there for a short period. The fat lady has always been a favorite, but I never thought about sitting down and writing a review. This is the time. It...was date night and we enjoyed a martini at the bar, our reservation came up and we were sat at a comfortable table. I ordered my favorite... the pork chop. Ah, what a beauty! Thick, cooked perfectly (I've had them at Emeril's in New Orleans, I know) with a nice apple finish. My lady ordered the Halibut, a special that night...and it was great. We shared. The Fat Lady decorates for the season or holiday and it's always fun to see what they come up with to enjoy. Don't miss it, it's an Oakland treasure!More

Met family and dined here last week. There were nine of us, which was a bit hard to accomodate, but they made it happen. This is an old bordello that Jack London frequented. The place is decorated in a very ecclectic fashion. The food was...very good and the service also. If you are in the mood for something different and out of the ordinary stop by and grab a good meal.More

We enjoyed Sunday brunch with French toast, and a lox scramble. Food was yummy and it was fun the staff was in Halloween costumes. It’s kitschy inside with the paintings on the walls and a different but very relaxing outside patio.

Speakeasy style restaurant in Oakland. Food and service was great. I had the watercress and beet salad . Very tasty, but the portion was on the small side. My husband’s Rubin was very tasty. We also enjoyed a bowl of French-onion soup.

Found this place on trip advisor and I was so happy our family came here. The food was delicious, the cheesecake was my favorite. The bathrooms are clean. The restaurant is clean. The owner and our waitress were so kind and friendly to our family....I love the decor and theme of the restaurant, it made the place extra special IMO. If we were local we’d definitely come back with out the kids. They have a nice set up where you can sit out doors. I took a pic of the sign but it made me laugh and relieved they took Public health seriously.More

I was in a buffet gathering of about 25 people in the banquet room. So forget the table settings, coverings and everything else. Nonexistent. The first thing that I noticed was the flight of stairs had not been vacuumed since 1970. For two of us...the price was $100, which included gratuity but the attendants continually waited for additional tips. There was very little actual food at the table - and what was there was old and stale. No butter for the rolls - some of which were stale - and no drinks were included in the $100 - not even water. And no napkins except at the bar. The classic ? I got two Cokes for $8.50 each. And for that $17 the attendant poured a single 15 cent can of Safeway cola into two glasses - and wanted a tip. We spent $140 and then stopped at a restaurant to get something to eat before going home.More

I went for breakfast on a Sunday morning and it was nice and quiet. It is located a block from Jack London Square. They had charming old world décor and great service. We could have been diners at the turn of the last century because...the atmosphere felt like a more refined age than most places these days. Breakfast prices run $8 to $13 and cocktails $6 to $9. It was a nice and relaxing meal. We all enjoyed our meal and there was a really nice selection. Parking on the street was free and close. After breakfast we went down to Jack London Square for the Farmers Market and that was really nice. I posted a review of that as well.More

An old traditional restaurant in Oakland that serves great and tasty food. Interior decorated celebrating Halloween, the bar serves great cocktails, has a very good selection of spirits and wines. The food served is not complicated and very tasty. The service is even, unhurried and with...a smile. A great place for good drinks, food and service. Have dined many times. And never been disappointed. Great Jack London Square and Oakland institution. Worth a try.More

My son took me out for my Birthday and a co-worker had recommended the Fat Lady because of the eclectic decor. It was lovely. Food was fantastic and the waiter comped me a glass of wine for my B-day. My son had a steak which...he said was cooked to perfection. I had the seafood pasta, which had plenty of seafood & a delightful sauce. We will be backMore

Went for a quick lunch but stayed longer. We sat at the bar, which was beautiful old wood. The cash register was vintage 1800’s. Pat the bartender was very friendly and introduced us to different drinks. Had a basic bar lunch which was good and...saw there were other good choices people were enjoying.More

Going to Yoshi's for a show on New Years Eve, we picked this place just based on its location, being right next door to Yoshi's. Well, what a find. Excellent food and service, with the entire restaurant/bar area decorated for the New Year Celebration. We...ordered the Calamari appetizer, which was recommended by our waitress. It was awesome. A must order. I ordered the Duck Breast, and it was very good...cooked perfectly...tender and flavorful. My wife had the Filet with Scampi. The Scampi was perfect, while the Filet lacked the tenderness and flavor. All in all, this is a very good place to eat. Kinda funky inside as well.More

Stumbled onto this restaurant while wandering around Jack London Square. We were drawn to the sound of great blues music (not live) while we were walking nearby. Stepped inside, and we were immediately drawn to the eclectic and hilarious Halloween decor ... it seemed like...it'd be a fun place to eat dinner, so we got a table and settled in. Husband's martini was excellent--a local vodka (Marin County?), and my glass of chardonnay was tasty as well. Each of us got a bowl of the French onion soup, which was quite good. With a salad and french fries, we had a delicious dinner while grooving out to the great selection of blues music filling the space. Highly recommend for a fun, affordable, and tasty meal!More
