In the first part of Thursday's Backchat, we're talking about authorities' plans to expand sexual conviction record checks to include the self-employed and volunteers.
Employers will soon be able to know whether tutors and coaches they hire had sexual convictions in the past under new rules set to take place at the end of this year. The scheme will also be expanded to volunteers who have regular contact with children and the mentally disabled starting next year.
Under the arrangement, parents and guardians will be regarded as employers, meaning that they will be able to access the sexual conviction records of the tutors or caretakers they hire.
Can this move help reduce sexual assault cases? And should other convictions be made available?
After 9:30, we'll be looking into the "low altitude economy" as some some industry representatives hope to amend existing regulations to allow the use of drones for commercial purposes.
