UPDATE 1/16 10:44 A.M.: The Roanoke Police Department says one man is dead after a crash on the 4000 block of Brandon Avenue SW.

Police say it happened shortly before 6 a.m. when a vehicle was traveling east on Brandon Ave. SW. Reports say the driver lost control and hit a vehicle traveling west.

A man driving one of the vehicles passed away at the scene.

Police say a man in the second vehicle was taken to the hospital with reportedly non-life-threatening injuries.

Investigators report speed is believed to be a factor in the crash. Additional information about the drivers has not been released at this time.

Officers say the crash is now cleared and both lanes on Brandon Avenue are open.

Roanoke Police say the crash is under investigation.



ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — The Roanoke Police Department (RPD) says due to a crash this morning, one road in Roanoke is closed.

According to RPD, just before 6 a.m., there was a major motor vehicle crash.

Due to the incident, they say the 4000 block of Brandon Avenue SW is closed.

Officials say both lanes of travel from Deyerle Road SW to the city line will be closed while they complete their investigation and clear the road.

They are asking motorists to take a different route of travel and avoid the area if possible.
