Icelandic women proved, yet again, that they are among the world's fittest. The Icelandic crossfit champion Annie Mist Þórisdóttir came in third at the women's category at the CrossFit Games 2017, the world championships in the popular endurance fitness regimen. Hilmar Harðarson, a second Icelandic crossfit champion came in second in the men's 60 years and older category.

The gold in women's category was taken by Tia-Clair Toomey, an Australian weightlifter, and the silver by a second Australian, Kara Webb.

Icelandic women World's Fittest, men World's Strongest
Icelandic women did extremely well at the games this year. In addition to Annie Mist two other Icelandic women made it into the top five, although Annie was the only one to secure a spot on the podium. Ragnheiður Sara Sigmundsdóttir came in fourth and Katrín Tanja Davíðsdóttir fifth. Both Annie and Katrín Tanja have in recent years secured gold at the games. Annie Mist Þórisdóttir won the women's title in 2011 and 2012, while Katrín Tanja Davíðsdóttir, who came in fifth this year, won the title 2015 and 2016.

Historically Icelandic men have also done well in the CrossFit Games, although they have been unable to match the success fitness of Icelandic women: Hilmar Harðarson got gold in the men aged 55-59 years category in 2013. While Icelandic women repeatedly win the title World's Fittest, Icelandic men have been more successful at the World's Strongest competitions. Icelandic men have won the title World's Strongest eight times.

The CrossFit Games are an annual athletic competition sponsored by Reebok, functioning effectively as the world championship in CrossFit, which is a branded fitness regimen. The CrossFit Games are styled as a venue for determining the "Fittest on Earth". Participants compete in 13 different workouts composed of weightlifting, aerobic, gymnastic and endurance workouts.
