Two and a Half Men cast: Then and now

Two and a Half Men was a hit from the get-go. The series premiered in 2003 and went on to run for 12 successful seasons until 2015.

Starring Charlie Sheen and Jon Cryer, the sitcom drew in anywhere from 13 to 16 million viewers per season and earned the youngest cast member $410,000 per episode.

But the series started to show some cracks around season nine, when Sheen began a feud with creator Chuck Lorre, resulting in him being fired from the show he molded from the beginning.

Charlie Sheen played notorious ladies' man Charlie Harper, a hedonistic jingle writer whose brother moves into his Malibu home, much to his dismay.

He played the role until season nine, when he was replaced by Ashton Kutcher, after a public fallout with the show's creator, Chuck Lorre.

It was in 2011 when he targeted Lorre in a series of rants where he called him "clown," "a stupid, stupid man" and even hurled some anti-Semitic insults at him.

Sheen was at the time struggling with his drug and alcohol addiction, which also led him to rant about bizarre topics like "winning" and having "tiger's blood."

He later compared the period to "alien or demonic possession."

"It feels awful. I can't sit there and lie to you," he said of the past in a 2019 interview with Loose Women "Some of it is very surreal. To this day, I am not sure how I created such chaos and wound up in that headspace.

He began his sobriety journey in 2017.

Despite being belittled and humiliated by Sheen, Lorre's affection for him didn't wane, with the previously embattled actor being Lorre's first pick for his November 2023 comedy series, Bookie.

"It should be Charlie," he recalled considering the 58-year-old actor to Variety. "I remember Charlie was very much engaged in sports betting and he would tell me stories about it all the time. You know, when things were good."

Though he was "nervous" about the reunion, Lorre told Variety, "Almost as soon as we started talking, I remembered, we were friends once... And that friendship just suddenly seemed to be there again."

"I don't want to be too mawkish about it, but it was healing. And he was also totally game to make fun of himself. When he came to the table read of that episode, I walked up, and we hugged. It was just great."

Sheen starred in eight seasons of the hit show before reportedly entering rehab, with his character killed off.

He was quickly able to move on, however, with the sitcom Anger Management, which brought immense success – it became the most-watched scripted comedy series premiere ever with 5.47 million viewers, according to TV Guide.

Sheen has gone on to star in a string of films, including Scary Movie 5, Machete Kills and 9/11, and was in Lorre's series Bookie.

Jon Cryer played single dad Alan Harper, who moves in with his big brother Charlie after his divorce from wife Judith. Alan means well but is prone to making poor life choices.

Since Two and a Half Men wrapped, the actor has made guest appearances on shows such as American Dad, Mom, Robot Chicken and Will & Grace.

He also had a recurring role as Lex Luthor in Supergirl, Batwoman, The Flash and Arrow.

After an appearance on podcast Crime Writers On... it was announced that he would be joining the Undisclosed podcast starting from their second season.

Angus T. Jones played Jake, Alan Harper's son from the age of 10 when the show premiered in 2003.

By 2010, Jones became the highest-paid child actor on television when at age 17, he was awarded $410,000 per episode. With the average season consisting of 22 episodes, that's a lot of money for a teenager.

Despite his success, Jones stepped away from the series in 2012 to become a devout Christian. But not before criticising the series.

"Jake from Two and a Half Men means nothing. He is a non-existent character," Jones said in a video for the Forerunner Chronicles, a Christian group.

"If you watch Two and a Half Men, please stop watching Two and a Half Men. I'm on Two and a Half Men and I don't want to be on it. Please stop watching it and filling your head with filth."

Jones was convinced to return for the series finale in 2015 but he has kept a low profile in Hollywood since – his last major acting role is in Louis C.K.'s web series Horace and Pete in 2016, though he did make an uncredited appearance in Bookie.

Melanie Lynskey was the stalkerish girl next door Rose, who had a creepy obsession with Charlie.

In the series finale, it was revealed Charlie did not die after all, but rather Rose had kept him prisoner at her house for four years.

The New Zealand actress has experienced success following the series, starring in films such as Sadie, Little Boxes and The Changeover.

She has also had TV stints on Girlboss, Summer Camp Island and, more recently, Yellowjackets, which scored her a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series.

She most recently appeared in HBO's The Last of Us, an adaptation of the 2013 action-adventure game. She was praised for her acting in the guest role, even receiving a nomination for the 2024 Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series.

Holland Taylor played the glamorous Evelyn Harper, Charlie and Alan's overbearing mother.

Taylor starred in all 12 seasons of Two and a Half Men and her career shows no signs of slowing down even after the series wrapped.

Now 81 years old, she has appeared in the series Mr. Mercedes, The Orville, Speechless and Good Behavior and starred in the 2020 Netflix movie To All the Boys: P.S. I Still Love You.

She is acting to this day, with her latest projects including 2023 film Quiz Lady and appearances on The Morning Show and Billions.

The actress has been dating fellow actress Sarah Paulson, 49, since 2015.

Conchata Ferrell played Berta, Charlie's no-nonsense housekeeper – a role in which the actress received two Emmy nominations.

After the series wrapped, Ferrell appeared in TV series Krampus, Grace and Frankie and The Ranch, which stars Ashton Kutcher, who replaced Sheen when he was fired from the show.

Ferrell sadly died in 2020 after suffering a heart attack. She was 77.

Marin Hinkle played Alan's uptight ex-wife, Judith, who is the mother of his son, Jake.

After the show ended, Hinkle appeared in the blockbuster Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle and in the series The Affair, Red Band Society, Madam Secretary, Homeland and Speechless. Her last major role was in the Emmy-winning series The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.

In March 2024, she settled her divorce from her husband Randall Sommer after 25 years of marriage.

Ashton Kutcher joined Two and a Half Men in season nine after Sheen was famously booted from the show.

Kutcher played Walter Schmidt, a billionaire who purchased Charlie's Malibu house following his death.

Since the sitcom wrapped, Kutcher voiced a character on Family Guy and became an executive producer and star of the Netflix sitcom The Ranch, which ran from 2016 to 2020.

He reprised his role as Kelso in a guest role in the successor of That '70's Show, That '90s Show.

Kutcher's film career remains strong with the actor most recently starring opposite Reese Witherspoon in the rom-com Your Place or Mine.

Amber Tamblyn joined the cast in Season 11, playing Jenny, Charlie's supposed long-lost daughter.

Tamblyn appeared on Community, Comedy Bang! Bang!, Lip Sync Battle and Drunk History since the show wrapped.

In 2016, she also made her directorial debut and co-wrote Paint It Black, the movie adaptation of the Janet Fitch novel.

In 2021, she expressed solidarity with Britney Spears to end the conservatorship she was under, as controlled by her parents.

She is also involved with many non-profit organisations, most notably being a founder of Time's Up, founded in the wake of the #MeToo movement.

She most recently starred in 2023's You Hurt My Feelings.
