What travelers are saying
- Bill DRedmond, OR109 contributionsThis experience will cause you to be speechless at the beauty, history, views and architectural elegance. It is a MUST SEE when in Mexico City!!! If you are mobility impaired, you should not go here as the walk to the top can be stressful physically for some travelers.Written May 19, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - TOURtheWORLDMexPalUnited States2,319 contributionsThe parks, the streets, the houses, and the church are amazing. Do miss visiting the church in the center, the artists market, and of course the churros and hot chocolate from café’ El Jarocho.Written April 25, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Sara BHouston, TX199 contributionsAhead of our first-time visit, I booked a private tour for our group of 3 couples via the Basilica's website. Ms. Gabriela can be reached at visitasguiadas@inbg.mx - she is an English-speaking volunteer for the Basilica - she requests a very modest financial gift be made at the Basilica office at the beginning of the Tour.
It was really worth it to have Gabriela's guided visit of the entire complex. Note, there are elevations to climb (3 in our group opted not to climb to the top of the hill to see the Parish of the Indians) but it is totally worth the effort!
We are all Catholics and after our tour attended 4pm Mass in the old Basilica.
At the conclusion of the tour, Gabriela gave each couple a packet of additional information. Note, you can NOT be late to her assigned time, again, because she is a volunteer. And we also chose to generously tip Gabriela for her time and guidance.
Note, we had a wonderful private driver that day bring our group from the Anthropology Museum to the Basilica entrance and wait for us. He speaks very good English and drove a large vehicle comfortable for our 6. See my review of Gran Hotel for his contact information.
Also, give yourself more than 2 hours (we spent 3 and I wish I had more time!) to visit.
Lastly, please, please, please dress in a MODEST way as this is a place of consecrated churches.Written April 28, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Even with prior appointment, 15-30 minutes of wait is possible.
It has lots of items: family photos, school progress reports, newspaper articles, beds, clothes and dresses, crutches and vessels.
Amidst all these are just a few surreal paintings of real beauty. They speak for the talent of the artist, condone the stories of hysterics, malingerings and peculiarities.Written May 22, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Highly recommended!!!!Written May 14, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- 706traveler123Smyrna, GA23 contributionsExploring a very iconic place with my dad was amazing. So much history, architecture, places to eat. The cathedral itself is majestic. Even if you are not catholic, you will be amazed by the history it involves, the old paintings the multiple temples within the cathedral. And the relatively new excavations and ruins from the Aztec(Mexicas) empire.
Tipa: despite being rooftop restaurants be clear on prices , I got ripped off.
Great area for currency exchange, if you have larger bills to exchange you get better rate for your buck .
Go early to avoid huge crowds and take at least a whole day to walk around, maybe I missed to see other places but this area is iconicWritten May 12, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - lala382838Rockhampton, Australia12 contributionsRoberto Jair , chef Jose and Arturo Gonzalo made us stay in Mexico and absolute delight. It was a delight to go down and have breakfast and food morning and to be greeted by such courteous gentleman. The staff went out of their way to make us feel comfortable and secure and every possible need we had was met with a smile, I could not recommend the service the position the cleanliness and value for money any higher.Written May 24, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Ajeet NMumbai, India237 contributionsThe palacio postale is a working post office! The walls and the staircases have a golden hue. All the works are made in Europe, transported and assembled in situ.Written May 22, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - TOURtheWORLDMexPalUnited States2,319 contributionsThis area is one of the best neighborhoods, but the hotels are pricier than others. Safe neighborhood, it has the embassies, and the security patrols of all levels always present and visual. It has “The Best Restaurants” in Mexico City, such as Pujol and Quintonil”.
I highly recommend staying in the area, or at least walk through the nice streets and visit the parks.Written April 26, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Get tickets early and choose great seats, cheer on a favorite, and watch some solid acrobatics.

Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews. - TOURtheWORLDMexPalUnited States2,319 contributionsThis area is considered one of the best in CDMX, for living and for staying as tourists. It is the new old, has the character of both. I walked through its streets… yes, nice and clean, but what else! I stayed for 7 nights at Planco…. I like Polanco way better, more prestigious and closer to all the high-end restaurants and shopping centers, and of course the better hotels.
The only part of Condesa I was interested in was the section “The Park” where they filmed “Man on Fire” for Denzel Washington. I included some photos of that area.Written April 26, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
