Missing Persons: A Kate Conway Mystery Paperback – Bargain Price, May 31, 2011
The cause of death is "undetermined," but the cops peg Chicago television producer Kate Conway as the main suspect when her soon-to-be ex-husband, Frank, is found dead. To make matters worse-and weirder- Frank's new girlfriend suddenly wants to be friends.
Happy for the distraction, Kate throws herself into a new work assignment for the television program Missing Persons: the story of Theresa Moretti, a seemingly angelic young woman who disappeared a year earlier. All Kate wants is a cliché story and twenty-two minutes of footage, but when the two cases appear to overlap, Kate needs to work fast before another body turns up-her own.

Review
TOP PICK! With a fresh, sophisticated plot, snappy dialogue, cleverly placed red herrings and a brisk pace, there's not a single sentence in this novel that isn't thoroughly enjoyable. --RT Book Reviews
Fascinating characters, multi-faceted story lines, and plenty of action.. Missing Persons is an entertaining read that pulls readers in from the first. --Midwest Book Review
What makes O'Donohue's writing so compulsively readable is how realistically she draws her main characters. --Bookloons
I can't recommend Missing Persons enough! --Fresh Fiction
From the Author
Once I had the idea I wrote the first draft in ten weeks. Kate and the other characters seemed so alive and the story poured out of me - often I'd get up at three in the morning because a scene had grabbed hold and wouldn't let go until I'd written it.
I don't always like Kate, or agree with her choices, but I admire her grit, her reluctant determination, and her willingness to help someone even though what she really wants is to sit on her couch and eat take-out.
I love this book, and I hope you will too.

Kate Conway, low-level freelance TV producer extraordinaire, is funny, dedicated, brave -- and occasionally really stupid, which makes all of us readers feel good about ourselves. At one point in the book, I'm sure there were a half-million readers, at least, who jumped out of our seats, shouting, "For crying out loud, don't eat those cookies!" A great moment -- and it's good thing Kate is a serial protagonist, because she kept grazing her way through all kinds of potentially deadly hazards, not just cookies, but candies from Scotland, iced tea and burgers of all kinds. She obviously has a strong constitution, our girl Kate.
Two mysteries play off against each other here -- the unexpected death of Kate's about-to-be-ex husband, and the disappearance of a 22-year old woman, who's the subject of the reality-crime TV show Kate is producing. Fascinating trivia about the world of television production, something I knew nothing about, was fun, especially since Kate has a habit of editorializing, coming up with clever little observations about the nature of the world, of the people in it, and about some of our odd propensities, all of us. That part of the book was almost as good as the mystery itself, in which whole schools of red herrings swim by, some of which I bit on, others I didn't, but all of which were great fun. There were dastardly characters aplenty, and a couple of goodie-two-shoes who were almost as suspect. The final resolution of both mysteries was completely satisfying. All in all: really good book.
So now you get your turn, Amazon: I just ordered two other books by Miz O'Donohue -- and greatly look forward to reading them both as just a prelude to all the rest of her books.
Ending caught me off guard. Usually I know the ending right away but not in this great book.
