I have been looking for these songs for years. I was so happy to find them again. This CD brings back so many great memories. I absolutely love this CD. There was a small problem, but it was with the delievery not the seller. The shipping was fast and the packaging was good. I rate the seller with 5 stars, and will buy from them again.

Most of these songs were issued on a Roulette LP around 1959, titled "Jimmie's Golden Year" if I recall it correctly. I wore that darn thing out between the age of 15 and age 17 or so, and memorized all the lyrics, although I can't sing aloud without shame. I bought the CD version earlier this month, and I just played it twice through in the car during a long drive. This is folk/pop, performed just about as well as it ever could be. I have heard many of these tunes performed by others, but Rodgers' versions are among the best. (Well, maybe the Clancy Brothers take on "Waltzing Matilda" is equal to his...different enough so that both versions are worth owning.) I like everything on this, but the more uptempo songs are the bigger successes, simply because they are fun to sing along with, whether silly or a love song. "Woman From Liberia" does not make much sense logically, and when I first purchased the record at about age 14, I didn't like it. A week or so later, it had become my favorite cut of all of them. I don't know why, it just makes me happy. There are moments when the "backing vocals" intrude on the joy of hearing Jimmie's pure voice, but that was common in pop and rock music in that era. The record companies did not even trust such distinctly wonderful voices as Johnny Cash, Buddy Holly, Rosemary Clooney or Doris Day to carry many two-minute songs alone. If you want clean lyrics, clear singing, brisk accompaniment and a jolly good time, buy this before it goes out of print. Get a used copy if you have to. Jimmie is obscure now, having been tragically injured in a police incident around 1960 and coming back a couple of years later to a music industry which had moved past his best style. My, though, how good these performances are!

Jimmie Rodgers was one of the most successful artists of the late fifties; however, in any discussion of the music of that period, he remains unthought of by most until one of his songs is mentioned. Then, there is an almost unanimous "Oh, Yeah!" from everyone, quickly followed by "Do You Remember. . . .?"
The answer is "Yes," most folks do remember, and this excellent Rhino collection will bring all of those memories flooding back. The biggest hits are all here, highlighted by "Honeycomb", "Kisses Sweeter Than Wine", "Uh,Oh, I'm Falling in Love Again" and "Secretly". But the strength of this compilation lies in what follows. There is the fairly well known "Make Me a Miracle" and the whimsical "Bimbombey", both of which are usually recognized the moment they start playing.
The disc includes five lesser known cuts that would make the album worth having even if none of the previously mentioned tracks were there. Rodgers' beautiful second tenor soars with the ballads "Wonderful You" and "Child of Clay". As a bonus, there are excellent versions of "Waltzing Matilda" and "It's Over".
Rhino put eighteen tracks on this disc and not one of them is out of place. Anytime you combine excellent material and an excellent voice you get a remarkable product. The Best of Jimmie Rodgers is just that, a remarkable compilation that belongs in any good collection of the formative days of pop/rock. Highly recommended.

I recently met up with the girl I dated during freshman year of high school at the Jersey Shore. She remembered that I had sent a boxtop from a Ronzoni product, along with 25 cents, to then-radio station WMGM in New York for "Are You Really Mine?" by Jimmie, her favorite song at the time (Summer, 1958). She still kept the record all these years, but it was warped and unplayable. She had not been able to find the recording anywhere. After she returned to Florida, I found this gem on Amazon and sent it to her. It is the real, original Jimmie Rodgers and includes all of his delightful hits. She called to tell me that she has been playing the CD over and over and thinks of me, our high school and the way America was (before "Jersey Shore") every time she hears "Are You Really Mine?" I highly recommend this CD to anyone who wants to hear Jimmie Rodgers sing the original versions of his optimistic, upbeat, wholesome songs ("Kisses Sweeter Than Wine," for example).

I wanted this album because as a teenager, Jimmie was one of my favorite singers. This was partly because his first wife had been my music teacher, I grew up till mid-age 12 in our mutual hometown, and because I was not only into music generally, but rock music and folk music (the latter of which Jimmie identified with). He was a truly genuine human being, both as a youth and all the way through his life. He died recently, and I felt the need to add his music in a material form -- DVD, not just downloaded from a music streaming service. My younger sister kept all of our records. So I was glad to find the DVDs on Amazon. I bought others, too, but this one is good in providing an over-all sense of his work, and nearly all my particular favorites.

Als Rock and Roll würde ich folgende Titel auf der CD bezeichnen: Honeycomb, Kisses Sweeter Than Wine, Oh-Oh I'm Falling in Love Again, The Wizard, Bombombey, I'm Never Gonna Tell, Tucumcari und Woman from Liberia.

In Stereo sind Child of Clay, It's Over, Tucumcari, Ring-a-Ling-a-Lario, Waltzing Matilda, T.L.C. Tender Love and Care und Are You Really Mine.
