I currently have a phone on a Rogers corporate plan that I pay for out of my own pocket. My employer is now offering me a blackberry and inclusion into the company's Rogers plan..ie they will pay for the charges.
My first question is whether I can keep the same # using my current Rogers sim card in the blackberry and have it included in the company’s bill.
And secondly, I would prefer a Treo650 over the Blackberry, could I use the treo on the company’s blackberry plan and would it operate the same way?

Thanks

Wirelessly posted (Dell Axim WiFi: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 4.01; Windows CE; PPC; 240x320))

you Wont be able to use a treo on a blackberry plan

One solution is to do a transfer ownership, from your current personal account to make it under your company's name, and switch it to the BB plan after. Only given that the BB that your company offer you doesn't activated yet or not under contract.

Another option is switch your plan to minimum, and foward all the calls to your BB.

If you are not planning to work for your company for life time, I would suggest the second option. :D

Have you seen the information at www.BerryFAQ.com to make sure you're up-to-date on the additional capabilities of 2005-era BlackBerries, for a more accurate comparision to Treo's?

Will at least the phone work if I place the blackberry sim in the treo?

Yes it will work (voice) but not for data.

Yes you can use a treo on a blackberry plan for data (the treo won't operate like a blackberry of course, but you can still use all the data features). I use my 6230 on my blackberry plan (both voice and data work fine). In other words, you can place a blackberry SIM in another non-blackberry phone, and both voice and data will work fine.

Sure, you can, but a Treo isn't going to use the blackberry APN, so you're probably using whatever Rogers APN, and paying their full prices too without a plan.

Ya know, I think it comes out of the same 25Meg bucket. When I use my 6230 with my bb sim, i did not notice extra/other charges. In other words, I don't recall seeing on my bill a split between blackbery.net and internet.com apn data usage.

APN? I’m a blackberry newbie
Would I have access to my emails? I know it wont be real time/ push mail but could I set something up that would send them to the treo?
It seems like there are mixed opinions on the subject.

So I am in the same boat (use my company's BB on weekdays), but the difference is that I use the same SIM on my Moto V635 (vs. your Treo) on weekends. The last I checked with the Rogers Call Centre rep is that I won't be charged extra for using data on my Moto V635, as the data usage will come out of my 25MB Blackberry data plan.

Guess I will find out if that's true next month once I get the bill ...

From everything that I'm aware of, if you use your BB SIM in any other device but a BB, you will be paying data charges above and beyond your BB data plan. Voice will work of course but any other data access will be using another data APN such as internet.com on Rogers Wirelsss.

Be mindful of your next bill. I would be very interested in hearing the results. I'm expcting that you will be disappointed.

Not true. Not all data on a BB goes through the blackberry.net APN. Newer BB's, running OS 3.8+ have an option to enter whatever APN you want in the device. Particularly if you are using third-party software, or using your BB as a modem, you are not using the blackberry.net APN. I know for a fact that I use the internet.com APN when I use my 7290 as a modem, and I haven't gotten charges above and beyond my BB data plan...

If what you are saying is true, that could only be good news. It means that someone can get an unlimited BB plan which is $60 vs. a regular unlimited data plan which is $100 through Rogers and use the BB plan in another phone and also use that device for data.

Not bad, not bad.

Ah, no. The $60 "unlimited" BB on Rogers is not unlimited. It is capped at 25Megs, with each additional meg charged at $7 (read the fine print here: http://tinyurl.com/a8kek)
