Jordan Klepper to Take on Putin in New Daily Show Special

Viewers may be seeing red after Comedy Central airs Jordan Klepper’s newest Daily Show special

Comedy Central just announced the latest installment of The Daily Show Presents: Jordan Klepper Fingers the Pulse, and this one’s taking on the Republican party’s relationship with Vladimir Putin and Russia. Titled Moscow Tools, the special will premiere following The Daily Show next Monday, May 20th.

“As Vladimir Putin continues his gritty reboot of the Soviet Union, he’s getting a surprising amount of help from the party once led by Reagan,” the program’s synopsis explains. “Jordan Klepper speaks to foreign affairs experts, possible Russian assets, and probably Russian recording devices to find out whether Republicans have become the Kremlin’s useful idiots.”

One of those guests will be former Trump National Security Adviser John Bolton, who is shown sitting down with Klepper in a trailer for the special. “Can a f**king moron still be a useful idiot?,” Klepper asks Bolton in the interview.

“I think the answer to that’s yes, and I think Vladimir Putin understands it,” Bolton responds.

Klepper’s specials typically play out like longer TDS field pieces, featuring Klepper conducting sit-down interviews with experts and vox pop interactions on a dedicated topic. Past episodes have focused on Trump rallies during the 2020 Presidential election and an exploration of Hungary’s alt-right. The former, Into The MAGAverse, was nominated for an Emmy Award for its writing in 2021.

Beyond these Daily Show-branded specials, Klepper remains heavily involved with the program he first joined as a correspondent under Jon Stewart’s original tenure in 2014. After stints hosting his own Comedy Central series — 2018’s The Opposition and 2019’s Klepper — he rejoined The Daily Show as a contributor. He’s been a frequent host of the program during its guest-hosted and correspondent-hosted eras, leading the show as recently as last week, and is considered a top contender in the show’s search for a new permanent host.

The Daily Show Presents: Jordan Klepper Fingers The Pulse: Moscow Tools premieres Monday, May 20 at 11:30pm ET/PT on Comedy Central. It will also stream on Paramount+ and the TDS YouTube channel the next day.
