A bracing work of autofiction by creator and star Richard Gadd, Baby Reindeer can be a punishing watch but richly rewards viewers with its emotional complexity and excellent performances.

Verne Gay Newsday Fine import with not just one, but three emotional payoffs. Rated: 3.5/4 May 22, 2024 Full Review Peter Travers ABC News This Netflix series phenom that no one can stop talking about stars an astonishing Richard Gadd as a Scottish comic who shapes his life as the victim of a stalker (a dynamite Jessica Gunning) into a twisted spellbinder that deserves serious Emmy love. May 17, 2024 Full Review Graeme Blundell The Australian Gunning is simply a revelation, capable of eliciting sorrow and pity one moment and then terror the next. May 10, 2024 Full Review Lola Galán El Pais (Spain) Above all, it stands out for the unconventional psychological depth with which it addresses Donny's emotional ambiguities... [Full review in Spanish] Rated: 4/4 May 21, 2024 Full Review Susan Granger SSG Syndicate Without question, this is one of the most bizarre series ever to capture worldwide attention. Allegedly based on true events, the seven sordid episodes chronicle the creepy laureateship between a Scottish comedian and his stalker. Rated: 7/10 May 15, 2024 Full Review Read all reviews

Charlotte P Even being off putting after being based on the life of the main character, it’s a phenomenal creation that makes you see into other peoples lives rather than overlooking everyone and everything Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/02/24 Full Review Dark M Brilliantly written with deep and raw insights into the emotions and vulnerabilities of a victim of sexual harassment and sexual violence. The story is compelling and does not polarize or sensationalize but compassionately explores the complexity of codependent relationships honestly. I’m not sure if there was a quota for the length but I felt certain scenes were overlong and the editor left us gazing at empty space for far too long. But perhaps that was done deliberately to make the audience feel uncomfortable. I’m not sure how I feel about the fact the writer toyed with fact and fiction a bit irresponsibly possibly invading people’s privacy and publicly exposing their pain without permission. In that sense I felt a voyeuristic guilt when I found out what had happened and wished he had used reality to write a solid fiction instead. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 06/01/24 Full Review Jonathan H What a wild story, which is apparently all true. This series was one of the most uncomfortable experiences that I can recall. I mean, some of these scenes are just painful and visceral, and sometimes awful. But overall, it is a well-executed story and gives us a glimpse into various psychoses that manifest themselves in different ways through different flawed individuals. While it was a unique series, it's definitely one that I don't ever want to re-watch. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 05/31/24 Full Review Louise K If this was piece of fiction I would have a lot of admiration for the writing, performances (esp Jessica Gunning) and theme tackling. But I have real moral difficulty with the duty of care issues presented by the makers of this show regarding the 'stalker' as well as questions over this being Richard Gadd's whole truth. Well made, but problematic. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 05/31/24 Full Review Gareth v Definitely not happy viewing, but still a binge worthy show that does have a number emotional payoffs by it's conclusion. Led by a number of excellent performances, this surprise hit is one of 2024's best shows. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 05/31/24 Full Review Alexandre D Stellar performances by the actors and actresses, with a plot that hits you harder than you might think, especially when you know some people in your own entourage who are like the protagonist. To the people saying it has to be exaggerated, it's as close to reality as it can get. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/31/24 Full Review Read all reviews
