Pullikkaran Staraa  ( Year : 2017)

Pullikkaran Staraa is a 2017 Malayalam-language, Indian comedy film written and directed by Shyamdhar and starring Mammootty, Asha Sarath and Deepti Sati in the lead roles. The film released on 1 September 2017.

Pullikkaran Staara is the second directorial venture by Shyamdhar. The film is produced by B. Rakesh & Francis Kannookadan, under the banner Universal Cinemas in association with FTS FILMS. Mammootty does the role of a teacher trainer who hails from Idukki. It is his third release in 2017, after The Great Father and Puthan Panam. Asha Sarath does the female lead role, that of a teacher, associating with Mammootty for the second time. The makers announced the title of the film, only after the completion of the shoot. 

Bhagmati  ( Year : 2016)

Bhagmati is an upcoming Indian Telugu thriller film written and directed by G. Ashok. It features Anushka Shetty and Aadhi Pinisetty in the lead roles. Principal photography commenced in June 2016 in Hyderabad.

As far as budget goes, the upcoming Telugu film Bhagmati is undoubtedly a whopper of a movie. The Malayali audience can look forward to this film as it features some known names from Mollywood, who are an important part of the cast. Jayaram, Unni Mukundan and the most recent addition— Asha Sarath will play important roles in this film which has Anushka Shetty in the lead.

The film directed by G. Ashok will see Asha debuting in Telugu after a successful stint in Tamil through the remake of Drishyam titled Papanasham and another film Thoongavanam both with Kamal Haasan. A source from the unit says that Asha will be playing the role of a CBI officer named Vaishnavi Reddy in Bhagmati.

Anuraga Karikkin Vellam  ( Year : 2016)

Anuraga Karikkin Vellam is a 2016 Indian Malayalam film directed by debutant Khalid Rahman. Starring Biju Menon and Asif Ali in lead roles, the film is produced by Shaji Nadesan, Prithviraj Sukumaran, Santhosh Sivan, and Arya under the banner of August Cinema.

King Liar  ( Year : 2016)

King Liar is a 2016 Indian Malayalam-language comedy film written by Siddique-Lal and directed by the latter. It stars Dileep and Madonna Sebastian in the lead roles. Produced by Ousepachan Valakuzhy under his production Ousepachan Movie House. The soundtrack and score are composed by Alex Paul and Deepak Dev. The dialogues were written by Bipin Chandran. The film released on 2 April 2016.

In this french comedy influenced story, a swellhead grifter Sathyanarayanan aka Naran is trying to make a way for himself in the world also winning the heart of Anjali, with whom he is smitten. In between he intervenes with a fashion mogul's family life to dissolve divorce intentions brewing for a big pay check.

Paavada  ( Year : 2016)

Paavada, is a 2016 Malayalam film directed by G. Marthandan and written by Bipin Chandran, based on the story he co-authored with Shibin Francis. It stars Prithviraj Sukumaran, Anoop Menon, Asha Sharath, Miya George, Nedumudi Venu and Maniyan Pilla Raju. The film was produced by Maniyan Pilla Raju for Maniyan Pilla Raju Productions. The music was composed by Aby Tom Cyriac and released under the label Muzik247.

Paavada released on 15 January 2016. The film was a commercial success grossing 16.34 crore (US$2.4 million) from Kerala box office.

An alcoholic duo, met at a de-addiction centre helps each other to arrange their lives back together with their persistent illness. Pambu Joy's married life is in a muddle due to his alcoholism. Pavada Babu's life is in pieces due to a film he produced, in which Sicily was the heroine, Joy's mother. For financial gain the film was adulterated by Eldho. Eldho intends to re-release the film's 3D extended version. Both Pambu Joy and Pavada Babu fights through their alcoholism to stop the re-release of the film due to the added pain that will cause for Babu and to Joy's mother Sicily.

Thoongaa Vanam  ( Year : 2015)

Thoongaa Vanam is a 2015 Indian Tamil-language crime thriller film directed by Rajesh M. Selva starring Kamal Hassan, Prakash Raj, Trisha Krishnan, Kishore, Sampath Raj, Yugi Sethu, Asha Sarath and Madhu Shalini. The film was simultaneously shot in Telugu as Cheekati Rajyam. The film is produced by Raaj Kamal Films International and Sri Gokulam Movies. The film is a remake of the 2011 French film Sleepless Night

The film begins with Diwakar (Kamal Haasan), an Indian Revenue Service officer in the Narcotics Control Bureau, and his deputy Mani (Yugi Sethu), busting a narcotics scam. In retribution, Vittal Rao (Prakash Raj), a drug smuggler who had masterminded the scam, kidnaps Diwakar's son Vasu (Aman Abdullah). He is willing to release Vasu if Diwakar can return to him a bag of cocaine he seized while thwarting the scam. Without any options, Diwakar agrees and proceeds to Vittal's nightclub where Vasu is held hostage with the bag of cocaine, hiding it in the men's toilet. However, this is noticed by his colleague Mallika (Trisha), who becomes suspicious and thinking that Diwakar is involved in drug smuggling, informs her superior Draviyam (Kishore). Both begin to pursue Diwakar, taking away the bag of cocaine from the toilet in the process.

When Diwakar realises that the bag of cocaine has gone missing, he decides to return to Vittal a bag containing packets of maida instead, thinking that he and his cronies including a gangster Pedha Babu (Sampath Raj) won't realise the difference. Unfortuanately, Vittal and Pedha soon find out that Diwakar had cheated them and decide to kill him. Caught between Vittal's gang on one side and Mallika and Dhraviyam on the other side, Diwakar confronts Mallika and tells her that contrary to her suspicions, he is working undercover and had planned the entire operation to expose police officers such as Draviyam and even Mani, who are involved in drug smuggling. Then he rescues Vasu without Vittal's knowledge and Vittal is also arrested by Mallika and Draviyam. While taking Vittal to prison, Mallika finds out that she has Mani's mobile phone and on reading the messages in it, finds out that Diwakar had been speaking the truth all along, realising that Draviyam and Mani are involved in drug smuggling and had tried to frame Diwakar. Though Draviyam tries to resist arrest, killing Vittal in the process, he is eventually brought to justice.

Three months later, Mallika is now Diwakar's deputy. The movie ends with both of them thwarting the attempted murder of a police officer.

Papanasam  ( Year : 2015)

Papanasam (Destruction of Sins) is a 2015 Indian Tamil drama thriller film directed by Jeethu Joseph and jointly produced by Suresh Balaje and Rajkumar Sethupathi. It is a remake of the director's 2013 Malayalam film Drishyam, featuring Kamal Haasan and Gautami reprising the respective roles played by Mohanlal and Meena in the original.

The film tells the story of Suyambulingam, a middle-class cable TV operator, and his family. They come under suspicion when Varun, the son of the Inspector-general of police (IG), goes missing soon after harassing Suyambu's daughter. The rest of the film reveals how Varun disappeared and what Suyambulingam does to keep his family from going to prison.

The production work of Papanasam was undertaken by Suresh Balaje and George Pious. Music for the film was composed by Ghibran. The cinematography was led by Sujith Vasudev and the editing by Ayoob Khan. Principal photography commenced on 25 August 2014 and lasted three months. Papanasam released on 3 July 2015 to positive reviews from critics.

Angels  ( Year : 2014)

Angels is a 2014 Indian Malayalam social thriller film and the directorial debut of Jean Markose. The film stars an ensemble cast consisting of Indrajith, Asha Sarath, Joy Mathew, Prem Prakash, Parvathy Menon, Baiju and Dinesh Panicker. Story and screenplay were written by Jean Markose and Toni Tomy, dialogues were co-written by Shabu Kilithatil. It is a rip-off from the South Korean film Confession of Murder (2012). This film is a Moderated Success and Hit.

Filming took place at Chitranjali Studios in Thiruvananthapuram. The film is produced by Linu Issac, Hisham Basheer, Saju Azad and Maya Kartha under the banner of Cloud 4 Cinemas. Music is composed by Jakes Bejoy, with Sujith Sarang as cinematographer and Sreejith Sarang as editor. Principal filming completed on 5 June 2014. During filming, there was a shoot day when director Jean Markose was incapacitated due to a high fever, and Indrajith stepped in to temporarily directing of a hospital scene featuring Tara Kalyan. Film producer Linu Issac stated "Indran (Indrajith) rocked it."

Jean Markose is a radio jockey from Dubai and has directed several short films in Dubai. He narrated the script to Indrajith, his wife's cousin, who "immediately signed the deal with a handshake" as he liked the "powerful social message" it had. According to director Markose, the film is a "social thriller that revolves around ‘Views 24x7,’ a popular crime and investigative show". Indrajith's role is that of a police officer who was tagged as a "loser" and hence different from other traditional cop roles. Asha Sharath was signed to play a journalist named Haritha, with the actress stating that Haritha was "as unscrupulous as Geetha", her character in Drishyam.

Hameem Haider (Indrajith) is a brilliant police officer in the Special Armed Police Department. He does his work efficiently but is an egoist to some extent. Due to external pressures, he is forced to step aside from a case he has been dealing with. He is offended by this and wants to take revenge on those behind forcing his recusal.

His earlier crime investigation becomes the focus of the reality crime show Views 24x7, and it is at this juncture that priest Varghese Punnyalan (Joy Mathew) and Journalist Haritha Menon (Asha Sharath) enter his life. Both of them want to know about Haider and his earlier investigations, but their interests are unrelated and have different motivations. In their attempts to attain their goal, each becomes aware of the other and the resulting conflict builds the rest of the story line.

Varsham  ( Year : 2014)

Varsham is a 2014 Malayalam drama film written and directed by Ranjith Sankar. The film stars Mammootty and Asha Sarath in the main roles, T. G. Ravi as the antagonist, along with Mamta Mohandas, Govind Padmasoorya and Master Prajwal in major supporting roles. It features a film score and soundtrack by Bijibal. Varsham released worldwide on 6 November 2014. The film received generally positive reviews from critics and was commercially successful.

The film narrates the story of Venu (Mammootty) who is an affluent finance company owner but at the same time very much uses the usual crony tactics finance companies use to build their business. His world is limited to only his son and wife. Like any father he imposes his dreams and aspirations on his son without realizing the effect it is having on him. One night, after an argument with Anand on giving a worker 10000 rupees for building house, his son dies of a cardiac arrest and this leads him to see the world in a different perspective. Using his finance company, Venu starts using innovative loan schemes at interests rates lower than that of the market to help people with healthcare, education and other such needs, which leads to him making enemies of his rivals. How he copes up with all these issues and tries to keep his social work in the name of his son alive forms the crux of the story.

Drishya  ( Year : 2014)

Drishya is a 2014 Indian Kannada language drama thriller film directed by P. Vasu and starring V. Ravichandran and Navya Nair in the lead roles. It is the remake of the 2013 Malayalam film Drishyam, directed by Jeethu Joseph and starring Mohanlal and Meena. The supporting cast feature an ensemble of Achyuth Kumar, Prabhu Ganesan, Asha Sharath, Swaroopini Narayan, Unnathi and Rohith B.

The film released on 20 June 2014 to widespread critical acclaim, with the performances of Ravichandran, Navya Nair and Asha Sharath, and the screenplay receiving special praise. It also saw commercial success and completed 100-day runs in theatres.

Rajendra Ponnappa (V. Ravichandran) is an orphan who had dropped out of school after his fourth grade. He is now is a businessman running a cable television service in a rural area. He is married to Seetha (Navya Nair) and they have two daughters, Sindhu (Swaroopini Narayan), a Plus Two student, and Shreya (Unnathi), a student of class sixth. His only interest apart from his family is watching films. He spends most of his time in front of the TV in his small office.

During a nature camp, Shreya gets photographed in the bathroom by a hidden cell phone. The culprit, Tarun (Rohith B.), is the son of police inspector general Roopa Chandrashekar (Asha Sarath). Tarun is accidentally killed by Seetha and her daughter when he comes to blackmail them. They hide his body in a compost pit, which is witnessed by Shreya. Seetha tells Rajendra about the incident and he devises a way to save his family from the law. He removes the broken cell phone and disposes of Tarun's car, which is seen by a police constable, Suryaprakash (Achyuth Kumar), who has a grudge against Rajendra. Rajendra takes his family on a trip to attend a religious meeting, watch a movie and eat at a restaurant. Roopa, realising that her son has gone missing starts an investigation.

After a preliminary investigation, Roopa calls Rajendra and family for questioning. Rajendra had predicted that this would happen and taught his family how to change their alibi at the time of murder. When questioned individually, they reply the same thing and they had also shown the bill of the restaurant, the movie tickets and the bus journeys' tickets as proof of their alibi. Roopa questions the owners of the establishments they have been to and their statements prove Rajendra's alibi. Roopa realises that on the day of the incident, Rajendra had taken the tickets and the bill, made acquaintance with the owners and had gone for the trip with his family the next day, thus proving his alibi and making the owners unwittingly tell the lie.

Roopa arrests Rajendra and family and Suryaprakash uses brute force to beat the truth out of them. Eventually, Shreya gives in and reveals the place where the body is buried. After digging the compost pit, they find the carcass of a calf, indicating that Rajendra had moved the body. Shreya reports to the media and complains against Suryaprakash. The constable is suspended and Roopa resigns from her post. Roopa and her husband meet Rajendra to ask forgiveness for their rude and violent behavior. Rajendra suspects there might be foul play involved and still does not reveal directly that his family has committed a crime. Rajendra, now in remand, signs a register at the newly constructed local police station. As he leaves, a flashback shows him leaving the incomplete police station with a shovel in hand, indicating that he has hidden Tarun's body in the foundations of the very police station that dealt with the said investigation.

Drishyam  ( Year : 2013)

Drishyam (English: Visual) is a 2013 Indian Malayalam-language drama thriller film written and directed by Jeethu Joseph. It stars Mohanlal and Meena in the lead roles and features Ansiba Hassan, Esther Anil, Kalabhavan Shajon, Asha Sarath, Siddique, Roshan Basheer and Neeraj Madhav in supporting roles. The film was produced by Antony Perumbavoor for Aashirvad Cinemas. The story follows the struggle of Georgekutty and his family, who come under suspicion when Varun Prabhakar, the son of the Inspector-general of police, goes missing after an attempt to physically harass Georgekutty's daughter.

The film's principal photography commenced in the first week of October 2013 at Thodupuzha in Kerala and was completed in 44 days. The cinematography was done by Sujith Vaassudev and was edited by Ayoob Khan. The soundtrack of the film was composed by Anil Johnson and Vinu Thomas.

Released on 19 December 2013 in Kerala, Drishyam received positive reviews with critics praising the screenplay, the performances and direction. The film grossed over 750 million worldwide and is the highest-grossing Malayalam film of all time. It ran for more than 150 days in theatres and became the first Malayalam film to collect 500 million from its theatrical box office collections, remake rights, satellite and television rights. It won numerous accolades including the Kerala State Film Award for Best Popular Film and the Filmfare Award for Best Film – Malayalam and screened at the 45th International Film Festival of India and the 8th Asian Film Festival. The film was remade into four other Indian languages including Telugu, Tamil, Kannada and Hindi.

Zachariayude Garbhinikal  ( Year : 2013)

Zachariayude Garbhinikal (English: Pregnant Ladies of Zacharia) is a Malayalam–language comedy-drama film written and directed by Aneesh Anwar. The film narrates the incidents in the life of a gynaecologist and five women who come into his life. Lal appears as the gynaecologist while Rima Kallingal, Sanusha, Geetha, Asha Sharath, and Sandra Thomas play the roles of five pregnant women. Sandra Thomas also produced the film along with her father Thomas Joseph Pattathanam under the banner of Friday Cinema House. The film started production in May 2013 from Kochi, Kerala.

The music of a song in the film, "Veyil Chilla", was noted for its similarity to Vangelis' theme "Conquest of Paradise". The film had a relatively new composer duo, Vishnu and Sharath, son and nephew of musician Mohan Sithara. The background score of the film was composed by Prashant Pillai.

The film narrates the incidents in the life of a gynaecologist and five women who come into his life each with unconventional/illegitimate pregnancies. Lal acts as the gynaecologist and Asha Sharath does the role of doctor's wife. Sanusha plays the role of an eighteen-year-old girl who refuses to abort her child and reveal the child's father. In the end, she gives her baby to the gynaecologist and his wife who don't have children of their own. After some months, she visits the doctor's house and leaves him a book. And from reading one of the story in the book that she specially marked he figures out that she bore the child of her father. Rima's character is a nurse, while Geetha plays an elderly woman who gets pregnant through artificial insemination. Aju Varghese appears as Ajmal who has strong feelings for Fatima. However, due to their height difference, he is unable to confide his love for her. Sandra Thomas plays the role of another expectant woman who bears her boyfriend's child which she wants to conceive only if her husband dies and Joy Mathew acts as her husband.

Buddy  ( Year : 2013)

Buddy is a 2013 Indian Malayalam film written and directed by Raaj Prabavathy Menon. The film has been produced by Augustin Jackson and it features Anoop Menon, Srikanth, Bhumika Chawla, Balachandra Menon, Babu Antony, Asha Sarath, Arun Midhun and Mithun Murali. Balachandra Menon made a comeback after a long time through this film. The film did fairly well at the box office.

The story commence from the house of Vishnu, a 17 year old teenager who is raised by two mothers Meenakshi, a renowned writer and Padma, a researcher in Bharatnatyam art form. They are born feminists and strong willed women who decides to have child through artificial insemination and thus Vishnu happens to them. The story features the friendship between a father and son. Maanikunju was living his dream when the 17-year-old Vishnu walks in to their life. With some hidden intentions, Vishnu befriends Maanikunju and his friends. But the nature of his father leaves him surprised. Another person Shankaran Nampoothirippad acts as a tool between the two. What follows next forms the rest of the story.

Ardhanaari  ( Year : 2012)

Ardhanaari (2012) is a Malayalam film about the life of transgender people in Kerala. The film is directed by Santhosh Souparnika and produced by M. G. Sreekumar under his production house MG Sound& Frames.

Vinayan (Manoj K. Jayan), is a transgender with male physique and female behavioural traits which leads to ridicule and snide remarks from his brother and others. The film brings out the rituals, customs, angst and preferences of transgender people. The title of the film alludes to the half male and half female Hindu god Ardhanarishvara. Also starring in the film are Maniyanpilla Raju, Thilakan, Sukumari and Saikumar. It was one of the last films featuring Thilakan who died weeks before the release of the film. The film opened to mixed critical reviews but the performance by Manoj K. Jayan as a transgender gained unanimous appreciation. It is widely considered as one of the finest performances by the actor.

Karmayodha  ( Year : 2012)

Karmayodha is a 2012 Indian Malayalam action-thriller film co-produced, written and directed by Major Ravi. It features Mohanlal, Asha Sharath, Murali Sharma, Saikumar, Mukesh, Bineesh Kodiyeri, Rajeev Pillai and Aishwarya Devan. The soundtrack was composed by M. G. Sreekumar; the background score was provided by Jeffrey Jonathan. The film deals about the illegal activities happening against women. Upon release, the film received mixed reviews but was a flop. The film was dubbed in Tamil as Vetrimaaran IPS.

Madhavan Menon (Maddy) is a ruthless investigating officer working with the Mumbai Police. He is an encounter specialist who makes decisions on the spot, without always waiting for orders from the top. His latest assignment is to investigate the missing of a teenage school girl from Mumbai. He reaches Kerala on being tipped off that the girl could be taken to Kerala. In the meantime, another girl gets kidnapped in Kerala, presumably by the same people or people linked to them. There is also information that some other girls too have been kidnapped. Following the leads, Maddy comes to the conclusion that all the girls have been abducted by a Kerala-based sex trafficking racket headed by a psycho criminal named Khais Khanna. Maddy embarks on a mission to eliminate the racket and save the girls, including his daughter who gets kidnapped, Diya.

The film depicts children being trapped by mafia groups taking advantage of technology like mobile phones, and dwells on the international sex trafficking. The film also depicts the diminishing joint family system in society, suggesting that with the increasing trend towards the nuclear family in society, what is getting uprooted is the bonding between family members and the security that they offer along with love and affection to the future generation.

Friday  ( Year : 2012)

Friday is a 2012 malayalam drama thriller film directed by Lijin Jose and starring Manu, Fahad Fasil, and Ann Augustine. Fahadh does the role of an auto rickshaw driver. The supporting cast includes Nedumudi Venu, Vijayaraghavan and Tini Tom. Produced by Sandra Thomas and Thomas Joseph Pattathanam under the banner of Innovative Film Concepts, the film is set and shot completely in Alappuzha. It released on 18 August 2012 to positive critical reviews. Carrying a tag of One Day-Many Stories; the film has a multi narrative aspect and is woven in the format of a hyperlink cinema. Production Controller of Friday is Shibu G Suseelan.

The film tells the life stories of many people who arrive into a town on Friday 11 November 2011 (11-11-11) to mess up their life into confusing proportions.

Balu (Fahadh Faasil), an auto-rickshaw driver by profession, lives by taking it on daily rent. He is least happy with the way the day has started off. He has just learned that a jack fruit has fallen over the roof of his house. We see the poor condition he lives in as he does not have the money to repair the roof of his house.

Out in the city, Aswathy (Nimisha Suresh) is busy shopping for her wedding. Accompanied by her grandfather (Nedumudi Venu), sister and mom, she is seen quite busy attending the phone calls of her beau Jayakrishnan (Tini Tom) who is incidentally in the city as well.

Muneer (Manu) is the son of the auto-rickshaw owner that Balu runs. He is a typical young college student who refuses to do anything that his mother wishes him to do. Muneer and his girlfriend Jincy (Ann Augustine) decide to head over to the beach, as a holiday has been declared for the college.

A fully pregnant beggar woman roams the city with hopes of finding a place where she could deliver her baby. Another mother (Seema G. Nair), whose daughter in law has just delivered a baby, has to head back home with the new-born, as the hospital decides to discharge her all on a sudden, due to want of beds.

Arun (Prakash Bare) and Parvathy (Asha Sarath), a childless couple, also lands in Alapuzha on the same day, to adopt a child. They are quite in a hurry, and have to leave back to Bangalore by evening, and when the orphanage officials demand a certificate to complete the adoption procedures, they find themselves in a fix.
